A beautiful expression of fruit, elegant and pure. Domaine Barraud's Saint-Véran Arpège shows white flowers, ripe citrus and pear with a mineral backbone.
Saint-Véran Arpège 2024, Domaine Barraud
Based in Vergisson, at the heart of the dramatic landscapes of southern Burgundy dominated by the Roche de Solutré and Roche de Vergisson, Domaine Barraud has established itself as one of the major references of the Mâconnais. Julien and Anaïs Barraud continue the family's work today with great precision, favouring careful and respectful viticulture in order to best express the diversity of the region's limestone terroirs.
The cuvée Arpège comes from several parcels on the Saint-Véran appellation, resting on typical clayey-limestone soils that give rise to Chardonnay that is both generous and taut. The 2024 vintage stands out for its fine balance between ripeness and freshness, offering a particularly harmonious profile.
Vinification is conducted with care: soft pressing, fermentation in oak casks with a moderate proportion of new wood, then ageing on fine lees to gain depth while preserving the aromatic purity of the fruit.
The wine reveals an expressive nose of white flowers, ripe lemon and pear, accompanied by subtle notes of fresh almond and hazelnut. The palate is ample, inviting and perfectly balanced by lovely mineral tension that brings freshness and length. The finish is clean and persistent, revealing the full precision of the domaine's work.
An elegant and approachable Saint-Véran, ideal as an aperitif, but equally fine with grilled fish, seafood, roasted poultry or goat's cheese.
Drinking window: 4 to 7 years.
