Burgundy is often spoken of in hushed, reverent tones—complex, elusive, and sometimes intimidating. But its wines are, above all, the expression of a place: shaped by soil, slope, exposure, and the patient hands of generations of vignerons. My goal with Emily in Burgundy Wine Tours is to make this richness clear, accessible, and deeply felt - never simplified, never diluted.
I’m Emily, an American wine professional based in Dijon, at the heart of Burgundy. My path here wasn't accidental. I moved to France after working harvest in the Rhône Valley and since then, I've built my life, my family, and my career around wine. I now lead private wine tours rooted in both technical depth and clear, intuitive storytelling. I am a WSET Level 3 candidate, an Ambassador of the Climats of Burgundy (UNESCO World Heritage Site), and fully imbedded in the local wine community.
These aren't mass-market tours. They're crafted for curious, discerning wine lovers - francophone or international - who want more than a checklist of famous names. By connecting vineyard to glass, I help you understand why Burgundy tastes the way it does—and leave with a personal, lasting bond to the land, the people, and the wines that shape it.
As an English-speaking guide fully embedded in Burgundy’s wine world, I bridge two perspectives: the quiet precision of Burgundian tradition, and the genuine curiosity of international visitors. My goal isn't to overwhelm, but to illuminate. I tailor each tour to your knowledge level and interests, building a clear, intuitive framework that make Burgundy not just understandable - but memorable.
Burgundy is the perfect classroom—if taught right. Rather than drowning you in appellation names, I focus on what matters: how soils shift from village to village, why climats matter more than brand labels, and how tiny variations in slope, exposure, and stone shape aroma, texture, and aging potential.
Tasting wine while standing in—or overlooking—the very vineyard it comes from? That's where the magic happens. It creates a sensory link that no lecture can replicate. Burgundy stops being mysterious. It becomes legible. I don’t recite scripts or rush through names; I offer context, clarity, and connection - because for me, wine is about place, people, and shared moments. That's what every tour I lead is built on.
Each tour is thoughtful paced to balance discovery, learning, and pleasure. The day typically runs from morning to late afternoon and includes private transportation, vineyard walks, winery visits to working domaines, and guided tastings.
We'll take 90 minute break for lunch at a restaurant of your choice. (Lunch not included in price of the wine tour.)
After pickup in Dijon or Beaune, we'll begin in the Côte de Beaune, famed for its elegant white and refined reds. The open, rolling landscapes here offer a clear view of how vineyards are shaped: by slope, exposure, soil depth, and organization of the climats.
This is where we ground our understanding of terroir - literally. We'll read the land together: examining soil structure, limestone content, drainage, and vine age - and see how each element translates into the wine in your glass.
In the afternoon, we head to the Côte de Nuits - the historic heat of Burgundy's greatest red wines. The vineyards here are tighter, steeper, and densely packed with prestigious climats.
Our visits are to carefully selected, active domaines - places where you'll meet the people behind the wines. We'll talk vineyard work, winemaking choices, aging, and how vintage shapes character. Tastings are always contextualized: you'll taste not just the wine, but the decisions - human and environmental - that shaped it.

There are many wine tours in Burgundy - but few are shaped from within the local wine trade.
I am not just a guide. I'm an active member of Les Clos Vivants, a respected wine shop in Burgundy led by the region's first Maître Caviste. I'm directly involved in selecting the wines and domaines the shop represents - not as a consultant, but as part of the daily team: tasting, evaluating, and speaking with growers week after week.
This position gives these tours a unique depth. The wine domaines visited are not chosen for visibility or convenience, but for the quality, integrity, and typicity of their wines. Each visit reflects the same standards used when selecting bottles for the cellar of a serious caviste.
For you, this means:
Access to producers chosen with care - not for the fame, but for the authenticity, quality, and expression of place
A tasting philosophy from flows seamlessly vineyard to glass to shop
The ability to reconnect with wines you discover - long after you've returned home
Combined with my role as a locally based wine professional and Ambassador of the Climats of Burgundy (UNESCO), these tours offer something rare: deep pedagogy, insider access, and genuine authenticity - all rooted in the daily rhythm of Burgundy's wine world.
Burgundy reveals itself to those who take the time to look closely.
These private wine tours are an invitation to slow down, ask questions, and experience the region intention - not as a checklist, but as a story unfolding in real time. Whether this is your first visit or a long-awaited return, my goal is to leave you to leave with clarity, confidence, and a lasting personal connection to this extraordinary land.
