A Premier Cru Chablis of rare energy and mineral precision.
Domaine Dominique Gruhier, a defining figure of the Tonnerrois, tends its vineyards in organic and biodynamic agriculture on mineral-rich Kimmeridgian soils. Based in Épineuil, at the gateway to the Chablisien region, the domaine is committed to revealing with precision the purity and tension of the great limestone terroirs of northern Burgundy. Meticulous vineyard work and minimalist winemaking reflect a constant desire to let the place speak with sincerity.
The Chablis Premier Cru Montée de Tonnerre 2023 comes from one of the appellation's most celebrated climates, often likened to Grand Crus for its depth and ageing potential. Planted on well-exposed slopes with Kimmeridgian marl soils rich in marine fossils, this terroir imparts intense minerality and considerable complexity to the Chardonnay. Precise ageing supports the wine's structure without obscuring its natural energy.
The nose reveals ripe citrus, candied lemon, white flowers and a marked chalky character. On the palate, the attack is ample yet perfectly held by a finely carved acidic framework. The substance is dense and deep, with pronounced salinity that extends the finish and speaks to the breeding of this cru. The balance between power and tension creates a wine that is straight, vibrant and distinctly refined.
A grand gastronomic wine, it will partner beautifully with fine oysters, roasted sea bass, scallops or creamed poultry. Already expressive now, it will gain complexity after 8 to 12 years of cellaring.
