A timeless elegance emerges from this Premier Cru signed by Domaine Bertagna, with notes of blackcurrant and violet on a refined texture.
The Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Plantes 2023 from Domaine Bertagna is one of the most seductive and floral Premier Crus in the range, sourced from a discreet parcel of just 23 ares neighbouring the Charmes and Combottes. It embodies with remarkable precision and delicacy everything Chambolle-Musigny does best, the most feminine, elegant and mineral expression. A sensual, floral lace. A lovely moment on the palate.
The terroir of Les Plantes
Les Plantes sits just below the village of Chambolle-Musigny in the northern part of the appellation, neighbour to Charmes and Combottes. This mid-slope terroir rests on rocky, stony soils with excellent natural drainage and a strong presence of calcareousclays and mineral marls. These calcareous and marly soils, typical of Chambolle-Musigny, are the precise origin of this Premier Cru's distinctive character, a refined minerality, natural freshness and floral finesse that are the absolute signatures of an appellation recognised as the most delicate and feminine across the entire Côte de Nuits. Domaine Bertagna's parcel covers just 23 ares of 100% Pinot Noir, cultivated organically with rigorous yield control. Harvesting is by hand, with careful selection in the vineyard and at the sorting table. Vinification is precise, total destemming, temperature-controlled fermentation for 15 to 21 days, gentle extraction by punch-downs. Ageing lasts 15 to 18 months in French oak, 50% new barrels.
Tasting profile
The colour is a delicate ruby with violet highlights, transparent and luminous, announcing the finesse and elegance to follow. The nose is charming, offering ripe red fruit with a lightly jammy intensity evolving into soft floral nuances. Aromas of very ripe red fruits, cherry, raspberry, strawberry, open with simultaneous generosity and delicacy, accompanied by notes of peony, violet and slightly faded rose which are the absolute floral signature of Chambolle-Musigny, and a fine, precise calcareousminerality in the background. On the palate, velvet textures charm immediately through roundness and suppleness. Floral and juicy, the palate reveals amplitude and suppleness in texture and tannins, underlined by a refined minerality that carries the finish towards sapid heights. The tannins are lace-like in finesse, the acidity fresh and well integrated, bringing lift and length. The finish is persistent, floral and slightly mineral, with an elegance and delicacy that confirm the absolute typicity of this Chambolle-Musigny terroir. Ready to drink from 2026, promising beautiful evolution over ten to fifteen years.
The domaine
Domaine Bertagna is located in Vougeot at the heart of the Côte de Nuits, its buildings adjacent to the former Cistercian Chapter that founded Clos de Vougeot in the 13th century. Founded by Claude Bertagna and acquired in 1982 by the German Reh family, it is now directed by Eva Reh-Siddle and Denis Rozat, overseeing production across 17 hectares covering 18 appellations, including 5 remarkable Grand Crus.
Food pairings
This Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Plantes pairs beautifully with slow-roasted lamb shoulder and glazed vegetables, roasted duck breast, grilled wood pigeon with perfumed cèpes and thyme, roasted poultry with wild mushrooms, or summer truffle carpaccio. It also finds harmony with aged cheeses such as Époisses or Cîteaux. Decanting for 30 to 45 minutes is advised in its youth. Served between 15 and 16 °C, it will reveal all the floral delicacy, calcareousminerality and lace-like elegance of a Premier Cru Chambolle-Musigny signed by one of the most rigorous domaines of the Côte de Nuits.
