Dark fruit, violet, spice and profound minerality from Jean-Marc Millot. A powerful, complex Grand Cru with noble tannins built for the cellar.
The Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2024 from Domaine Jean-Marc Millot represents the pinnacle of this family estate in Nuits-Saint-Georges, guided with real skill by Alix Millot since 2014, and the finest expression of Pinot Noir on the Côte de Nuits. For those seeking a serious red wine, this Grand Cru bridges the eternal tension between power and elegance. Harvested from vines over 50 years old and aged with care, it tells a story of terroir without artifice, rooted in the family's accumulated knowledge.

Terroir and vineyard

This Clos de Vougeot comes from the Grand Maupertui section, situated at the top of the Clos near the Château de Vougeot, one of the most sought-after and qualitative parts of this vast Grand Cru on the Côte de Nuits. The soils are clay-limestone, characteristic of this historic climat, planted with vines over 50 years old that run deep into exceptional terroir. The hilltop position, close to the château, benefits from remarkable natural drainage and sun exposure that gives the grapes unparalleled ripeness and aromatic precision. Alix Millot tends the vineyard organically, uncertified, with restrained yields. The 2024 vintage in Burgundy was marked by difficult conditions, excess rainfall and strong disease pressure, yet rigorous selection in the vineyard and cellar preserved quality despite reduced volumes. Winemaking relies on native yeasts to preserve the terroir's pure signature, partly using whole bunches depending on the vintage, with gentle extraction throughout. Ageing takes place in Burgundian oak barrels with about 30% new wood, without fining or filtering, to retain all texture and the wine's identity.

Tasting profile

The robe is deep, luminous ruby, characteristic of a Grand Cru in its youth. The nose shows immediate nobility and precision, revealing ripe raspberry, liquorice and a striking mineral salinity that speaks directly to the clay-limestone terroir. Depending on the vintage, the domaine shows more earthy character when whole bunches are used, with fine definition and assured personality. On the palate, the texture is silky and refined, carried by fine, integrated tannins that favour elegance over raw power. The wine unfolds its sophistication gradually with aeration, with pleasant intensity developing toward the back palate. The finish is long and distinguished, with discreet waves of red and black fruit, a touch of salinity and white pepper that confirm the precision and truth of this great terroir.

The domaine

Domaine Jean-Marc Millot farms around 8 hectares on the prestigious Côte de Nuits, world-renowned for Pinot Noir, with parcels in Bourgogne, Côte de Nuits-Villages, Savigny-lès-Beaune, Vosne-Romanée village and Premier Cru Les Suchots, plus three Grand Crus, Clos de Vougeot, Échézeaux and Grands Échézeaux. Established in the early 1980s with the first estate bottling in 1992, the domaine quickly entered the circle of reference-standard Burgundian Grand Crus. Twenty-five years later, Jean-Marc's daughter Alix took over winemaking in 2016, bringing fresh rigour and a sharp eye to the family's meticulous style, with increasingly committed organic farming since her arrival.

Food pairing

This Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru pairs beautifully with roasted pigeon with morels, venison in pepper sauce, herb-crusted lamb rack, Bresse chicken with black truffle or aged cheese such as Époisses or old Comté. Decanting for one to two hours is strongly recommended for this wine of ageing potential. Served between 16 and 17 °C in a large Burgundy glass, it will reveal all the finesse, mineral depth and absolute nobility of a Vougeot Grand Cru made with precision and passion by one of the most promising figures of the Côte de Nuits' new generation.
