Red fruits, gentle spices and floral notes. A precise and approachable Savigny from Domaine Jean-Marc Millot, supple, fresh and deeply enjoyable.
The Savigny-lès-Beaune 2024 from Domaine Jean-Marc Millot is a remarkable and surprising venture into the Côte de Beaune for this family domaine rooted in the Côte de Nuits, directed with precision by Alix Millot since 2016. A 100% Pinot Noir from three complementary lieux-dits of this village, renowned for producing red wines of immediate elegance and drinkability while preserving the identity and precision of the Millot style.
Terroir and the vines
This Savigny-lès-Beaune is a blend of three complementary parcels from the village: Les Gollardes, Les Vernots and Aux Fourches, on vines over 40 years old, planted on the clay-limestone soils typical of the Côte de Beaune. This parcel diversity ensures richness and terroir complexity that compensates for the absence of Grand Cru status in this appellation, one of the most respected in the Beaune hinterland for the quality of its red wines. The 2024 vintage in Burgundy was marked by difficult climatic conditions, excessive rainfall and strong disease pressure, requiring rigorous work and careful selection in the vineyard, where family expertise and Alix's growing commitment to organic farming preserved quality. Vinification relies on indigenous yeasts, with whole-bunch fermentation allowing the wine to express floral aromas and great freshness. Ageing takes place in oak barrels with only 10% new wood, to preserve fruit purity and terroir expression. The wine is neither fined nor filtered.
Tasting profile
The robe is a luminous, translucent ruby. The nose is expressive and fresh, marked by floral notes and bright red fruits, cherry and raspberry, enhanced by the whole-bunch vinification which amplifies the aromatic dimension and the wine's natural freshness. On the palate, the terroir gives a rounded wine, with red fruit flavours that unfold with generosity and harmony. The texture is supple and mouth-filling, carried by fine tannins and fresh, well-integrated acidity that brings lift and drinkability. The finish is balanced and persistent, with a precision and purity that confirm Alix Millot's expertise and signature touch, even on this appellation less prestigious than the great crus of the Côte de Nuits.
The domaine
Domaine Jean-Marc Millot manages around 8 hectares on the prestigious Côte de Nuits and this venture into the Côte de Beaune at Savigny-lès-Beaune, with parcels also on Bourgogne, Côte de Nuits-Villages, Vosne-Romanée village and Premier Cru Les Suchots, as well as three Grand Crus, Clos de Vougeot, Échézeaux and Grands Échézeaux. Arriving at the domaine in 2014, Alix Millot began winemaking on her own from 2016, perpetuating the family values of terroir respect instilled by her father while bringing her own signature, inspired by vignerons of the new generation.
Food pairing
This Savigny-lès-Beaune pairs beautifully with roasted poultry with herbs, rabbit with old-fashioned mustard, fine country pâté, burgundian ham in aspic, or a board of soft cheeses such as Époisses or Brie de Meaux. Served between 15 and 16°C, it will reveal all the floral freshness, fruit generosity and precision of a Côte de Beaune red vinified with the same care and rigour as the grand crus of the Côte de Nuits by one of the most promising figures of the new Burgundian generation.
