A generous, crisp Pinot Noir from Domaine Isabelle Doudet, with bright cherry and red fruit character rooted in the clay-limestone terroir of Savigny-lès-Beaune.
The Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2024 from Domaine Isabelle Doudet is the most accessible and convivial cuvée from a family domaine whose discretion matches only its rigour. Behind this regional appellation lies the signature of an uncommon winemaker, a trained notary who returned to the vineyard through passion and devotion to a family heritage worth preserving, driven by a single ambition: to produce wines at every level of the range that faithfully reflect a terroir, vintage and grape variety. A Burgundian Pinot Noir in its purest form, generous and crisp, consistently scoring 87/100 across consecutive vintages.
Terroir and vines
Sourced from carefully selected parcels around Savigny-lès-Beaune, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, this Bourgogne Pinot Noir benefits from the clay-limestone soils typical of the Côte d'Or, a substrate of remarkable richness and consistency that gives Pinot Noir its natural tension, aromatic freshness and fine-grained tannins that define the region's wines. The 13-hectare vineyard is managed under integrated pest management with constant attention to soil vitality, monitored by satellite imaging to anticipate precise parcel work, and controlled yields to concentrate the aromatic expression of the grapes. Harvest is entirely manual, carefully hand-sorted in the cellar, followed by a long maceration designed to extract the very essence of Burgundy: fruit finesse, Pinot Noir purity and terroir imprint. Fermentation proceeds with natural yeasts, followed by 15 months of ageing in French oak casks, a duration and proportion of new wood chosen to suit each cuvée's expression, adding complexity without masking varietal character.
Tasting profile
The robe is a brilliant ruby with purple reflections, vivid and luminous. The nose opens with immediate frankness and appeal: aromas of cherry, redcurrant and raspberry express themselves naturally and generously, supported by wild notes of forest floor and plum, touched with a hint of black tea and soft spice. On the palate, the wine is round, supple and fresh: the tannins are harmonious and well-integrated, lively acidity brings tension and drinkability to the fruity, generous core. The finish is clean, fruity and persistent, with a crisp return of acidity that invites the next glass. A Burgundy of pleasure and character, both immediately approachable and capable of elegant evolution over three to five years.
The domaine
Isabelle Doudet represents the third generation of a family domaine established in the 1930s in Savigny-lès-Beaune. She succeeds Marcel Doudet, the domaine's founder, and his father Yves Doudet, who developed and modernised it until the late 2000s. After studying law and obtaining her notary's diploma, Isabelle chose to return to her passion and took the helm of the domaine with a personal and exacting vision. Across 13 hectares spanning the appellations of Savigny-lès-Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton, she vinifies the entire range alone, driven by a constant ambition: that every bottle be an authentic reflection of terroir, vintage and winemaking identity, from entry-level to Premier Cru.
Food pairings
This Bourgogne Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with herb-roasted poultry, Burgundian ham in aspic, fresh pasta with wild mushrooms, porcini risotto, eggs in red wine sauce, or a selection of soft cheeses such as Brie de Meaux or young Époisses. Served between 14 and 15 °C, lightly chilled, it reveals the full fruity frankness and natural finesse of a carefully crafted Burgundian Pinot Noir.
