Red fruits and soft spices. A precise, digestible Pinot Noir from the Hautes Côtes signed by Domaine Bertagna, supple, fresh and very approachable.
The Hautes Côtes de Nuits Rouge 2024 from Domaine Bertagna is the most accessible and convivial cuvée from a domaine ranked among the great names of Côte de Nuits, with 5 Grand Crus and 12 Premier Crus to its name. Behind this regional appellation lies the same rigour and precision that guide the winemaking of all the domaine's cuvées, from its Vougeot to its Chambertin. A generous Pinot Noir with menthol notes and remarkable drinkability, signed Dames Huguettes.

Terroir and vineyard

The Hautes Côtes de Nuits Rouge from Domaine Bertagna, named Dames Huguettes, comes from a 5.75 hectare parcel of 100 percent Pinot Noir planted in the Hautes Côtes de Nuits, behind the Côte, in the valleys and hills that overlook the prestigious appellations of Vougeot, Chambolle-Musigny and Nuits-Saint-Georges. This higher altitude terroir, cooler and more ventilated than the Côte slopes, gives the Pinot Noir a natural freshness, lightness and aromatic tension that make it a red Burgundy of remarkable digestibility and vivacity. The soil is worked with respect for terroir, with strict yield control through soil management and green harvesting. Harvesting is by hand with selective sorting. Fermentation is temperature-controlled, with regular punch-downs around twice daily, for precise and delicate extraction of aromas. Ageing, for 10 to 12 months, is conducted 50 percent in oak barrels of which one third are new and 50 percent in stainless steel vats, to preserve the natural freshness and fruit of the varietal while adding complexity.

Tasting profile

The colour is a brilliant and attractive ruby. The nose is frank and immediately seductive, showing characteristic notes of menthol eucalyptus that define the personality of this back-slope terroir, accompanied by fresh red fruits, cherry, raspberry and redcurrant, with a light spicy touch. On the palate, it shows itself very approachable and does not hide its generous character, the texture is supple and fruity, the tannins fine and well-integrated, the structure fine and well-balanced. Fresh acidity brings drive and drinkability to a light and delicate weight. The finish is clean, fruity and lightly menthol, with pleasant persistence that invites you back to the glass. A Burgundy for immediate pleasure, to drink from now and capable of developing harmoniously over three to five years.

The domaine

Domaine Bertagna is located in Vougeot, in the heart of Côte de Nuits, its buildings opening onto the famous Clos de Vougeot. Founded by Claude Bertagna and acquired in 1982 by the German Reh family, it is today directed by Eva Reh-Siddle, great-granddaughter of the founder and a woman of conviction whose passion for Burgundy and its terroir guides every decision of the domaine. She relies on Denis Rozat at the head of production to perpetuate rigorous and precise winemaking across 17 hectares covering 18 appellations, including 5 remarkable Grand Crus, Chambertin, Clos Saint-Denis, Clos de Vougeot, Corton and Corton-Charlemagne.

Food pairings

This Hautes Côtes de Nuits Rouge will pair beautifully with roasted poultry with herbs, rabbit with mustard, fresh pasta with wild mushrooms, fine country terrine, a selection of fine charcuterie or soft cheeses such as young Époisses or Brie de Meaux. Served between 14 and 16 °C, lightly chilled, it will reveal all the frank menthol character and natural generosity of a Pinot Noir from the back-slope signed by one of the most rigorous domaines of Côte de Nuits.
