Red fruits and soft spices. A fresh and digestible Pinot Noir from the Hautes Côtes signed by Bachelet, supple, elegant and very approachable.
The Hautes Côtes de Beaune Rouge 2024 from Domaine Bertrand Bachelet is an ideal entry point into the world of a family domaine established in Dezize-lès-Maranges for four generations, and one of the most generous and accessible cuvées of the southern Côte de Beaune. True to type Pinot Noir, with notes of small red fruits, violet and liquorice. The palate is soft with a delicate acidity on the finish that brings freshness and a crisp quality to the ripe fruit. La Bouteillerie

Terroir and vineyard

The Hautes Côtes de Beaune, a succession of hills and valleys, overlook the Côte de Beaune from the west, from Maranges to Ladoix-Serrigny. The slopes sit in valleys perpendicular to the Côte de Beaune. This position on the back slopes, at a higher altitude than the vineyards of the Côte d'Or, gives Pinot Noir a natural freshness and particular aromatic tension, making it one of the crispest and most drinkable expressions of the variety in Burgundy. The vines are planted on clay-limestone and clay-siliceous soils that give the wines a certain complexity and distinctive minerality. To express each terroir fully, great importance is placed on soil work. From pruning through to harvest, all work at Domaine Bertrand Bachelet is done by hand. Vinification remains traditional and minimally interventionist, to best reveal the singularity and complexity of each terroir.

Tasting profile

The robe is purple, recalling peony flowers. Young, the nose is marked by red fruits (raspberries, morello cherries), becoming more candied with age. On the palate, a generous and round wine. The nose is fresh, fruity, mineral. The palate is round, lively, fruity, with blackcurrant, raspberry, blackberry and fine tannins. The finish is ample, fruity, lively, mineral and fresh. On the 2024 vintage, marked by natural freshness, this Hautes Côtes de Beaune expresses all the vibrancy and crispness of an altitude Pinot Noir, with that slight acidity on the finish characteristic of the region, bringing drive and drinkability to ripe and well-nourished fruit. A wine of immediate pleasure, to drink within two to five years.

The domaine

In 2011, Bertrand Bachelet took over the family Domaine from his father Jean-Louis, representing the fourth generation. The 13 hectares are spread across the Côte de Beaune between Maranges and Pommard. Work in vineyard and cellar is carried out with precision and passion, strongly inspired by Burgundian tradition. At the crossroads of tradition and modern viticulture, his approach is always driven by quality and respect for terroir. Great care in the vineyard, soil work, traditional vinification, minimal interventions, all designed to let the grape and wine express themselves freely. Recent vintages perfectly illustrate this evolution, with juicy and infused reds, and whites bursting with charm.

Food pairings

Pair with simple dishes like petit salé aux lentilles or mild-flavoured cheese (some goat cheeses, Emmental, Brillat-Savarin). This wine pairs perfectly with grilled and roasted white meats, terrines and pâtés, warm appetizers and savoury tarts. It will also complement a herb-roasted chicken, jambon persillé bourguignon, fresh pasta with wild mushrooms or a soft cheese board. Served between 14 and 16°C, lightly chilled, it will reveal all the fruity honesty and natural minerality of a Pinot Noir from the Côte de Beaune made with care and passion.
