Red and black fruits, spice, and deep minerality. A structured and elegant Premier Cru from Maranges, signed Bachelet.
The Maranges 1er Cru La Fussière Rouge 2024 from Domaine Bertrand Bachelet is the domaine's flagship and most ambitious offering, the Premier Cru that best expresses this southern Côte de Beaune appellation. From a climat that represents its finest character, it arrives in a bright raspberry-ruby dress with a luminous nose of red fruits and blackcurrant. The palate shows freshness and peppery notes, revealing a dense, supple structure.

The terroir of La Fussière

Maranges is the youngest appellation of the Côte de Beaune, officially recognized in May 1989. La Fussière is its principal climat, spread across the communes of Cheilly and Dezize-lès-Maranges on south and southeast-facing hillsides between 200 and 400 metres altitude. The soil is argillaceous, marly, and calcareous. This stony clay-limestone substrate gives Pinot Noir a natural depth and minerality that clearly distinguishes La Fussière from village Maranges, with more pronounced structure and aromatic complexity that reveals itself fully after a few years of ageing. From Pinot Noir, this Premier Cru comes from the La Fussière climat. Vines planted on clay-limestone soils produce a wine of intense ruby colour. The nose reveals ripe red fruit aromas with spicy notes. On the palate, it is structured with silky tannins and good length. The harvest is rigorously sorted before partial or total destemming, depending on the cuvée and vintage character. The reds are vinified destemmed in concrete vats, displaying silky tannins.

Tasting profile

Red berries, raspberry and blackcurrant mark a fresh nose, while the structured palate shows peppery flavours. The raspberry-ruby colour expresses the lightness and vibrancy of berries found in the nose, alongside blackcurrant and red fruit. The palate is more direct with peppery notes, on a fine length that remains fresh. The 1er Cru La Fussière is the principal climat of Maranges. On the 2024 vintage, marked by exceptional freshness and natural tension, this Premier Cru reveals all the precision and crispness of a stony-terroir Pinot Noir, with silky, well-integrated tannins and a peppery, persistent finish of beautiful length. A wine accessible now and capable of ageing pleasantly over five to eight years.

The domaine

Bertrand Bachelet is a talented vigneron of the Côte de Beaune, embodying the new generation of Burgundian winemakers who blend traditional craft with modern sensibility. Based in Dezize-lès-Maranges, he took over Domaine Bachelet in 2011, following his father and grandfather. Since then, he has continually refined his style and revealed the great terroirs of the Côte de Beaune with precision. Thanks to his new winery, he has elevated his winemaking, producing wines of remarkable terroir expression.

Food pairings

This wine pairs beautifully with grilled red meats, game, and aged cheeses. Try it with herb-roasted lamb, duck breast with cherries, farm-raised roasted chicken with wild mushrooms, or a cheese board featuring Époisses or young Comté. A 30-minute decant is advised in its youth. Served between 15 and 16°C, it will reveal all the fruity precision, stony minerality, and natural elegance of Maranges' most emblematic Premier Cru.
