White flowers, citrus and fresh minerality from Meursault terroir. Precise and elegant from Bachelet, fresh, balanced and beautifully approachable.
The Meursault Clos du Cromin 2024 from Domaine Bertrand Bachelet is one of the most precious and ambitious cuvées from this family domaine on the Côte de Beaune, and among the rare wines to bear the name of a Meursault lieu-dit in the range. Croissant with butter, toasted bread, roasted almond and hazelnut, honey, citrus, hawthorn, elderflower, linden blossom, this deep and precise bouquet pairs beautifully with poultry or veal in cream sauce, as well as noble shellfish and fish in sauce. A memorable tasting moment in any case.

The terroir of Clos du Cromin

Meursault, the world-renowned appellation, has produced great white wines for centuries. The Meursault Clos du Cromin takes its name from the village of Cromin, located north-east of the appellation, near the Volnay vineyard, in rich, clayey soil. This position at the north-east of Meursault, at the borders of Volnay, is crucial to understanding the personality of this Clos du Cromin: the soils here are more clayey and less stony than those of the southern Premier Cru vineyards of the appellation, which gives the wine a remarkable flesh, texture and natural unctuosity. The wine reveals a colour of remarkable transparency and brilliance, a subtle nose of citrus, butter and honey, and a long finish. The grapes are pressed immediately without prior crushing. After gentle pressing and light settling, the musts are directly run into barrels. Ageing takes place in oak barrels, of which 25% are new, for approximately twelve months, followed by a few months in stainless steel tanks to stabilise the wine before bottling.

Tasting profile

Subtle notes of citrus, butter and honey mark a deep and precise nose. The palate is round and silky, with notes of yellow plum and spices. Its fine acidity makes it a wine of very long ageing potential. Rated 93 points by James Suckling for the 2018 vintage, described as dense and complete. On the 2024 vintage, marked by naturally preserved freshness and remarkable acidity tension, this Clos du Cromin expresses all the purity and generosity of a Meursault village of absolute precision and sincerity. The unctuous and tactile texture of the clayey terroir dialogues with fresh acidity well integrated for a wine of natural balance and harmony. The finish is long, saline and fruity, with this characteristic return of yellow plum and soft spices of the finest Meursaults.

The domaine

Bertrand Bachelet, a young winemaker established since 2011, heads this 13-hectare domaine spanning from Maranges to Pommard. Reasoned viticulture and Royat cordon training are the rule here. A range characterised by wines with ripe and intense fruit. The reds, which represent the vast majority of production, are vinified destemmed in concrete vats and present silky tannins. The whites, without lees stirring, offer roundness and orchard fruit perfumes, juicy and honeyed.

Food pairings

This Meursault will pair beautifully with noble fish or white meat in sauce. Poultry or veal kidneys in mushroom cream sauce, truffle cheese, smoked salmon and fresh cheese bagel or truffle Brillat-Savarin are pairings of great class. Sole fillets à la normande, chicken fricassee with Meursault or crayfish à la nage are also classic pairings. Open and wait about an hour, otherwise decant. Served between 12 and 14°C, it will reveal all the unctuous richness and aromatic depth of a Meursault village of great sincerity.
