White flowers, citrus and hazelnut. A precise and elegant Meursault from Domaine Matrot, fresh, mineral and very approachable.
The Meursault 2023 from Domaine Matrot is a village Meursault that perfectly embodies the Matrot style: a blend of twelve parcels creating a complete wine of great purity and finesse. The mineral imprint of these climates reveals itself with force in a white of considerable sensitivity and length, with round texture and lively finish.

Terroir and vineyard

This Meursault is a blend of twelve parcels from the village, on predominantly argilo-calcareous soils with some marly deposits, as is true of nearly all the domaine's parcels. The Chardonnay vines average 35 years old, farmed organically with soil tilling and organic matter. Harvest is by hand. Grapes are pressed as whole bunches on pneumatic press with 24 hours settling before racking and transfer to barrel. Fermentation uses indigenous yeast at controlled temperatures with 100% malolactic conversion. Ageing lasts twelve months on lees in oak barrels of one to five years old, the subtle oak allowing terroir to speak clearly.

Tasting profile

The colour is a pale luminous gold. The nose is very Meursault: acacia flowers, pear compote, hazelnut, lemon curd, with a whisper of citrus rind and a trace of flint. The palate is well-defined with remarkable punch, medium weight, succulent and rich, almost opulent, with round texture and firm backbone. The finish is clean, dry, balanced, lively and luminous.

The domaine

A family domaine since 1835, based in Meursault, Domaine Matrot has been run since 2016 by the sixth generation, Adèle and Elsa Matrot, daughters of Thierry and Pascale, who have preserved the domaine's style while adding greater refinement, making the wines more approachable in youth without compromising their ageing potential. Its Meursault Perrières, Charmes and Blagny, alongside its Puligny Montrachet, are benchmarks of the Côte de Beaune.

Food pairing

This Meursault pairs with fish, shellfish, roasted chicken, veal in cream sauce or pressed-curd cheeses. Served around 12°C after decanting, it can be enjoyed now or will reward patience over several years, reaching its peak between 2027 and 2033.
