Red and black fruit, spice and minerality from Beaune. A precise and elegant Premier Cru from Domaine des Croix, with silky tannins and remarkable persistence.
The Beaune 1er Cru Les Pertuisots 2024 from Domaine des Croix is one of the most characteristic and fascinating cuvées from David Croix, scoring 16/20 from Revue du Vin de France. A distinguished wine that unfolds with delicious notes of red and black fruits delicately spiced, with great persistence and aging potential, and impressive structure. This Beaune Premier Cru displays a slightly firmer tannin grain than the domaine's other premier crus, a characteristic linked to its immediate proximity to Pommard.

Terroir and vineyard

The climat Les Pertuisots is ideally situated at the heart of Beaune's Premier Crus, below Les Aigros, between Les Vignes Franches and the Sizies, in the southern part of the appellation where the boundary with Pommard becomes distinctly marked in soil and wine. The domaine works two sections with brown clay soils, 40 to 50 centimetres deep, resting on a remarkable base of Jurassic limestone, known as Corton limestone, of exceptional mineral richness. These browning clays, similar in composition to those that define the great Pommard parcels, are precisely what gives this wine its firmer tannin character, broader structure and greater fleshliness compared to the domaine's other Premier Crus. This more assertive tannin grain, tempered by a precise acidity on redcurrant that cuts through the palate and stretches it forward, is the absolute signature of this lieu-dit. Organic viticulture. Manual harvest with two successive selections. Vinification with 20% whole bunches, fermentation with indigenous yeasts in wooden vats. Ageing for 16 months in barrels with one-sixth new oak, then racking and several additional months in vat. Neither fined nor filtered.

Tasting profile

The robe is a deep garnet red with purple reflections, luminous and dense. The nose displays remarkable precision and complexity: aromas of black pepper and clove, blackcurrant and morello cherry, rose and violet, with hints of cigar box and warm spices compose a bouquet of absolute richness and seduction. On the palate, the constitution is broader, denser and fleshier than the domaine's other Premier Crus, with a horizontal thread of acidity on redcurrant that cuts through the palate and stretches it forward with striking precision. The palate is voluptuous, balancing power with soft tannins. The finish is long, spiced and persistent, with a depth and complexity that promise beautiful evolution over the next ten years.

The domaine

David Croix originates from Montlouis-sur-Loire. From age sixteen, he knew he wanted to make wine. With a Master's degree in oenology from Dijon in 2001, he founded Domaine des Croix in the heart of Beaune with a clear vision: to craft wines that are the purest expression of terroir and vintage. Grapes are destemmed but never crushed, regular punch-downs bring beneficial structure to the Pinot Noir. Domaine des Croix enjoys universal acclaim in Beaune and increasingly embodies the role of rising star of the appellation.

Food pairings

This Beaune 1er Cru Les Pertuisots pairs beautifully with poached pheasant in Beaune wine with black garlic potato purée, herb-roasted lamb, roasted pigeon with wild mushrooms, veal chop with morels, or matured cheese such as Époisses. Decanting for at least one hour is recommended in its youth. Served between 16 and 17°C, it will reveal the full spiced depth, the distinguished tannin grain and the natural structure of a Beaune Premier Cru of absolute singularity and precision.
