Bright red fruits, soft spices and a floral note. Soft and digestible from Chevallier, fresh and very approachable.
The Coteaux Bourguignons 2023 from Domaine Benoît Chevallier is a sincere and accessible introduction to the work of a grower whose wines are among the most sought-after on the Côte de Nuits. Behind this entry-level appellation lies the same philosophy that guides the entire domaine: organic farming, hand harvesting, absolute respect for the fruit and terroir. An ideal gateway to Benoît Chevallier's precise and elegant style, at a price that lets you discover his uncompromised work.
The Coteaux Bourguignons appellation
Created in 2011, Coteaux Bourguignons is the broadest and most open appellation in the Burgundy vineyard. It allows growers to blend fruit from different parcels and communes across Burgundy, offering precious freedom to express their style and showcase young vines or parcels outside the major communal appellations. For a domaine based in the heart of Vosne-Romanée, like Benoît Chevallier's, this cuvée naturally benefits from the expertise and environment of one of the Côte d'Or's most prestigious villages. The vines are farmed organically, with the same rigour and care applied across the entire domaine.
Tasting profile
The colour is a frank and lively ruby, bright and inviting. The nose is generous and direct, showing fresh red fruit aromas, cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry, complemented by a light floral touch and a hint of soft spice. On the palate, the wine reveals itself as soft, fruity and immediately pleasing, with melted tannins and fresh acidity that give it good balance and easy drinking. The finish is clean, fruity and crisp, with that character of lightness and naturalness that marks wines from growers working organically with minimal cellar intervention. A wine for immediate pleasure, to be shared without ceremony.
The domaine
Benoît Chevallier founded his domaine in 2019, taking over family land cultivated for three generations in Vosne-Romanée. A former software engineer, he now tends his vines alone, including parcels in Premier Cru on Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges. From his first vintage, the domaine was awarded the Trophy for Young Talent and praised by the Wine Advocate as one of the rare new talents to emerge at Vosne-Romanée in recent years. Organic viticulture is practiced across the entire domaine, with the constant aim of revealing, vintage after vintage, the purity and sincerity of each cuvée.
Food pairings
This Coteaux Bourguignons pairs beautifully with fine charcuterie, a cheese board, homemade pizza, quiche lorraine or Sunday roast chicken. Served slightly cool around 14–15 °C, it will also be perfect as an aperitif with friends, in the spirit of an elegant and unpretentious wine to share.
