Six nearly vanished grape varieties resurrected on a single parcel, the Armagnac of pre-Phylloxera times, from Domaine d'Aurensan.
Armagnac Parcellaire Le Carré des Fantômes, Domaine d'Aurensan
Crafted as a micro-parcel bottling on a secluded terroir where some of the oldest vines in the appellation still stand, Le Carré des Fantômes is among the most singular and sought-after armagnacs of the Gers. The name refers to a tiny parcel, isolated within a tangle of vinerows now long disappeared, whose production is naturally very limited. Here grows an ancient and varied planting, often mixed together, which gives rise to a distillate of rare complexity.
The nose opens onto deep notes of dried fruits, preserved plum, beeswax and soft spices, with a light woody veil that speaks to long and carefully managed ageing. On the palate, the texture is generous, velvety, almost caressing, supported by remarkable concentration. The aromas evolve towards fig, blonde tobacco, vanilla, walnut and a fine touch of chocolate. The finish, endless, mingles aromatic nobility, precision and a warmth perfectly woven through.
An armagnac for contemplation, intense and refined, best savoured slowly and alone, or alongside fine dark chocolate, a delicate cigar or a walnut tart. A rare bottle, made for lovers of very old, characterful spirits.
