Refined and deep, blending intense dark fruit, smoky notes and spice, carried by fresh structure and silky tannins.
The Syrah Cortona 2022 from Stefano Amerighi is the most accomplished expression of this variety in Tuscany, and has become over successive vintages an absolute reference point for Italian Syrah.
Based in Cortona, in south-eastern Tuscany, Stefano Amerighi made the radical choice of Syrah as his sole variety, convinced of its natural affinity with these clay-limestone terroirs rich in galestro, bathed in light and tempered by altitude and continental influences. The domaine is farmed biodynamically, with meticulous soil work and a minimalist approach in the cellar.
The grapes are harvested at perfect ripeness, then vinified without additives, with spontaneous fermentations and gentle extractions. Ageing takes place mainly in large wooden vats and used barrels, to preserve the identity of the fruit and terroir expression without oak imprint.
The 2022 vintage offers a deep and refined Syrah, marked by aromas of ripe dark fruits, black olive, pepper, violet and smoky notes. The palate is dense yet perfectly well-balanced, with silky texture, fine tannins and remarkable freshness that extends the finish over spicy and mineral accents.
A fine wine for the table, to serve with roasted or grilled meats, herb-dressed lamb, game or Mediterranean cuisine with frank flavours. It can be enjoyed from now after aeration, but will gain in complexity over 8 to 12 years of cellaring.
