A Syrah of textural refinement and bright fruit from Le Vieux Murier, expressing the stony, chalky terroirs of Crozes-Hermitage with precision and approachability.
The Crozes-Hermitage Les Saviaux 2023 from Le Vieux Murier is a red wine made entirely from Syrah, grown on the gravelly and clay-limestone terroirs of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation in the northern Rhône Valley. This cuvée captures the authentic character of the grape in an accessible, focused style that honours the identity of its terroir.
The domaine is run by Florian Buit, a young winemaker who shaped his experience at some of the Rhône Valley's finest references, particularly at the prestigious Hermitage domaine Jean-Louis Chave. That rigorous training shows in his careful approach to the vineyard and his commitment to making precise, honest wines rooted in terroir.
The vines benefit from a favourable climate and good exposure, allowing optimal ripening of the grapes. Winemaking favours gentle extraction to preserve the brightness of the fruit and the finesse of Syrah, followed by measured ageing that brings structure and complexity without overwhelming the wine.
The 2023 vintage reveals an expressive aromatic profile, marked by notes of blackberry, blackcurrant and dark cherry, accompanied by characteristic touches of black pepper, violet and spice. On the palate, the attack is supple and generous, carried by juicy fruit and fine tannins that structure the whole with elegance.
The finish is fresh and persistent, extending the flavours of dark fruit and spice with fine harmony. A gourmand and balanced Crozes-Hermitage, ideal with grilled meats, a côte de bœuf, duck breast or braised dishes. It can be enjoyed in its youth for its bright fruit, while capable of evolving favourably in the cellar for several years.
