Provence white in its most serious expression, from Rimauresq.
The Cru Classé de Provence Blanc 2024 from Rimauresq is one of the rare and precious expressions of dry white wine in the Côtes de Provence appellation, a curiosity of grand pedigree, from a domaine that stands among the eighteen Crus Classés de Provence, a distinction granted in 1955 and never questioned since, placing Rimauresq in the absolute elite of the Provençal vineyard.
The terroir and the domaine
Iconic property of the Maures valley, Château Rimauresq nestles in a sanctuary of unspoilt nature, sheltered by the Maures massif and benefiting from a cool microclimate thanks to maritime influences from the nearby Mediterranean. The vineyard rests on schist soils unique to Provence, a rare geology in a region dominated by limestone and clay, which endow the wines with natural tension, mineral refinement and ageing potential that set them radically apart from the merely sun-soaked and round profiles too often associated with southern wines. This schist terroir, poor and well-draining, naturally disciplines the vines and concentrates the aromatic expression of white grapes with a precision and freshness uncommon under this Mediterranean climate.
The wine
This 2024 Blanc is drawn from a precise blend dominated by Rolle, the emblematic white grape of Provence known as Vermentino in Corsica and Italy, complemented by Clairette and Sémillon in proportions that vary with the vintage. Vinification is parcel-by-parcel and meticulous, with cool-temperature fermentations to preserve aromatic brilliance and fruit purity, and fine lees ageing to bring roundness and complexity without ever weighting the whole.
Tasting profile
The colour is pale gold with green glints, bright and clear. The nose is immediately fresh and elegant, aromas of citrus, grapefruit, lime and orange zest mingling with white peach, white flowers and a light touch of fresh almond, with fine schist minerality and precision in the background. On the palate, the attack is lively and precise, carried by natural freshness and a silky, creamy texture. The substance is ample and well-balanced between richness and tension, and the long, saline finish expresses with elegance the mineral signature of Rimauresq's schists. A gastronomic white, accessible now in all its vivacity and capable of evolving harmoniously over three to five years.
Food pairings
This Cru Classé de Provence Blanc will pair beautifully with grilled fish in olive oil and fresh herbs, garlic prawns, bouillabaisse, hand-dived scallops with preserved lemon butter, refined Mediterranean cuisine or lightly spiced Asian dishes. It will also find fine harmony with fresh goat's cheese with herbs or white truffle burrata. Served around 10–12 °C, it will reveal all the freshness, precision and schist minerality of a great Provence white.
