Ripe and candied mirabelle plums, flowers and subtle stone fruit notes. An artisanal eau de vie from Roulot, intense, precise and deeply authentic.
La Mirabelle du Roulot is one of the most sumptuous and sun-filled liqueurs in the range of Domaine Jean-Marc Roulot, a limited-production artisanal spirit crafted in Meursault in the continuity of a family tradition of distillers reaching back to 1866. Behind the vintner universally recognised as one of the absolute references for Chardonnay worldwide stands a precise and demanding liqueur maker who brings to fruit the same care and rigour he applies to his Meursault Premier Crus. With La Mirabelle, Lorraine makes its way to Burgundy, the most sun-kissed and aromatic fruit of eastern France elevated by the expertise of an exceptional house.

The fruit and its making

The mirabelle of Lorraine is one of France's most distinctive and emblematic fruits in its gastronomy, a small golden plum with orange-tinged skin, sweet and slightly tart flesh, whose intoxicating and complex perfume is instantly recognisable. Harvested at perfect ripeness in August from Lorraine orchards where terroir and microclimate give it incomparable aromatic typicity and concentration, it is precisely the sort of rare, seasonal fruit that deserves artisanal craftsmanship and particular attention. Made in Meursault according to the house's traditional methods, this Mirabelle du Roulot comes from carefully selected fruit, macerated in alcohol with the precision that characterises every production of the domaine. The fruit expresses itself without excess, with great gustatory faithfulness. The palate offers a subtle balance between sweetness, freshness and intensity, avoiding any heaviness and allowing elegant, digestible drinking, in the image of the domaine's wines where restraint and depth take precedence over immediate showiness.

Tasting profile

The colour is luminous gold with golden and slightly amber reflections, visually warm and generous. The nose is striking in its frankness and expressiveness: the mirabelle asserts itself with all its character, fresh and ripe fruit, golden plum notes, peach, a light honeyed and floral character, and that subtle almond and stone fruit undertone that is the fruit's most appealing aromatic signature. The whole shows a precision and sincerity that directly recall the mirabelle peeled by hand in the full sun of late summer. On the palate, the attack is round, sweet and generous, immediately fruity, the mirabelle's natural sweetness expressing itself with elegance and frankness, balanced by light acidity that brings vivacity and freshness to a silky, well-built structure. The texture is delicate and enveloping, and the long, fruity finish leaves an impression of absolute naturalness and purity that is the hallmark of Roulot liqueurs.

The domaine

Jean-Marc Roulot is one of the most admired and respected figures in Burgundy's vineyards, directing a domaine founded in 1830 in Meursault and recognised worldwide as one of the absolute references for Chardonnay, alongside Coche-Dury, Leflaive, Comtes Lafon and Raveneau. Since 1989 he has farmed his 16 hectares in biodynamics with unwavering demand. But Jean-Marc Roulot is also, through family heritage, a distiller and liqueur maker, a tradition reaching back to his great-grandfather in 1866, and the domaine's still continues to produce spirits and liqueurs of a precision and sincerity that naturally extend the domaine's identity. The complete range of Roulot liqueurs, Mirabelle, Griotte, Abricot, Framboise and Poire, is produced in limited quantities in an artisanal, non-industrial spirit that guarantees each batch absolute quality and frankness.

Tasting and pairing

La Mirabelle du Roulot is best enjoyed neat, lightly chilled to between 10 and 12°C, in a liqueur glass or tulip glass. It will pair beautifully with warm mirabelle tart, almond financier, yellow fruit panna cotta, plum crumble or vanilla ice cream drizzled with generous drops. It may also be enjoyed as an aperitif, over crushed ice with a splash of sparkling water for a delicate summer long drink, or as a digestif after a meal, alone in celebration of exceptional fruit elevated by one of Burgundy's finest makers.
