Dark fruits, vanilla, caramel and subtle spice from Planteray, a blend of Barbados and Trinidad rums aged in toasted French oak. Round, silky, and generous on the palate.
The Planteray Black Cask Barbados Trinidad is a generous blend born from a distinctive dual maturation, distilled in Barbados and Trinidad, then refined in south-west France to reveal subtle toasted notes.

A bottle from the house of Planteray, blending rums distilled in Barbados and Trinidad, aged for several years in their countries of origin in 200-litre American oak casks, then transported to south-west France for a second maturation in small, heavily toasted oak barrels. This rum is bottled at 40 degrees. Planteray remains one of the most respected houses for its expertise in dual maturation, and this Black Cask continues its signature style, bringing complexity and refinement through this second ageing phase.

Ageing and provenance

Matured first under tropical conditions in Barbados and Trinidad, then refined in small, heavily toasted French oak barrels in south-west France, this rum marries the rounded, fruity and spiced character typical of the Caribbean with delicate smoky notes inherited from the pronounced toasting of the French casks. This dual maturation, the house's hallmark, adds complexity and refinement while preserving the aromatic identity of each of the two regions of origin. The blend of Barbados rums, renowned for their roundness, and Trinidad rums, known for their fruity richness, forms the foundation of this elegant expression.

Tasting profile

On the nose, nuanced tropical fruits and soft spice mingle with generous caramel, coconut, vanilla and hazelnut notes. Beneath these generous layers, more complex notes of frangipani, cinnamon, cocoa and gingerbread enrich the aromatic profile. On the palate, the rum is round and fruity, combining smooth molasses with preserved raspberry, marmalade and soft spice. The finish is generous and persistent, marked by soft coffee, coconut, nutmeg, cinnamon, raisins and plum.

The house

Planteray is a rum house recognised for its dual maturation technique, combining tropical ageing with finishing in heavily toasted French oak. This signature, applied here to a blend from Barbados and Trinidad, demonstrates the house's full expertise in revealing complexity and refinement from distinct Caribbean rums.

Tasting and pairing

This Planteray Black Cask Barbados Trinidad is best enjoyed neat or with a single stone, in a tulip glass, to fully appreciate the fruity richness and roasted notes brought by the second maturation. It works beautifully in mixology, particularly in a Daiquiri or reimagined Old Fashioned. It will pair well with a coffee dessert, coconut pastry, a light cigar, or aged hard cheese, whose generosity will answer perfectly to the spiced richness and fruity roundness characteristic of this rum.
