From the rare Hameau de Blagny climat, this Chapelle de Blagny Chardonnay balances white fruit and mineral precision with the tension of altitude. A confidential expression of Puligny Montrachet's highest terroir.
The Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Hameau de Blagny 2023 from Chapelle de Blagny is one of the most distinctive and compelling expressions of Puligny Montrachet, from a Premier Cru climat at altitude whose rarity and aromatic precision make it an overlooked treasure of the Côte de Beaune.

This bottle comes from the 2023 vintage, produced on the Hameau de Blagny Premier Cru climat, the sole Premier Cru of Puligny Montrachet claimed from the heights of the Blagny hamlet. Crafted from Chardonnay on limestone soils at altitude, at the precise boundary between Puligny Montrachet and Meursault, this wine combines Puligny's mineral refinement with the tension and freshness of high-altitude terroirs.

The terroir and ageing

Planted on the upper slopes of the Blagny hamlet, this Premier Cru benefits from altitude limestone with lean, stony soils that encourage slow maturity and natural aromatic concentration of remarkable purity. Hameau de Blagny is the sole Premier Cru of Puligny Montrachet situated at altitude, directly connected to the hamlet itself, giving this white a more pronounced tension and minerality than the lower-slope Premiers Crus, whilst maintaining the floral finesse and precision characteristic of the appellation. The sunny, generous 2023 vintage produced whites of fine fruity maturity whilst preserving the freshness and straightness typical of the Côte de Beaune's altitude terroirs.

Tasting profile

On the nose, floral freshness of acacia and white flowers mingles with white-fleshed fruit notes (pear, vineyard peach and citrus), alongside a whisper of flint and delicately toasted hazelnut. Beneath these aromatic layers, the vintage's richness asserts itself with restraint, carried by a subtle buttered quality and finely integrated oak. On the palate, the wine is tense and precise, balancing the vintage's fruity generosity with lively acidity and chiselled minerality that give this expression remarkable tension and length. The finish is long and airy, with lingering notes of flint, white flowers and citrus of fine persistence.

The producer

Chapelle de Blagny is among the rare producers to express with such fidelity the singularity of the Blagny hamlet through its three appellations, red Blagny, white Meursault Blagny and Puligny Montrachet Premier Cru, thereby preserving the memory of an exceptional terroir often overshadowed by its illustrious neighbours. Its commitment to aromatic precision and purity is fully reflected in this Hameau de Blagny cuvée, the ultimate expression of a lieu-dit whose altitude and soil rigour form its signature.

Serving and food pairing

This Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Hameau de Blagny 2023 is best enjoyed between 12 and 14°C in a burgundy glass, after a gentle opening in a decanter to allow its minerality and floral aromas to emerge. It will benefit from three to six years in the cellar to reveal its full complexity and ageing potential. It pairs beautifully with Breton lobster, sole meunière, scallops in the shell, or a soft-paste Burgundy cheese, whose finesse will respond perfectly to the mineral tension and floral elegance characteristic of this great white of the Côte de Beaune.
