A high hillside parcel near Puligny, offering a wine of considerable elegance shaped by the precision of Chapelle de Blagny.
The Meursault 1er Cru Les Ravelles 2023 from Chapelle de Blagny is one of the most discreet and elegant expressions from the Côte de Beaune, drawn from a Premier Cru climat perched at the border of Meursault and Blagny, at altitude where minerality and tension prevail over richness.
This bottle from Chapelle de Blagny, from the 2023 vintage, comes from the Premier Cru climat Les Ravelles, one of the most understated and authentic lieu-dits in the Meursault appellation. Made from Chardonnay on high-altitude limestone soils, at the confluence of Meursault and Blagny influences, it brings together mineral freshness, tension, and Burgundian elegance.
Ageing and origin
From vines planted on the heights of Meursault, at the edge of the hamlet of Blagny, this Premier Cru benefits from a high-altitude limestone terroir with lean, well-drained soils that favour slow ripening and natural concentration of aromas. Les Ravelles, a climat little known beyond discerning enthusiasts, stands apart through its deep minerality and the characteristic freshness of Meursault's altitude Premier Crus, quite different from the opulent richness found lower on the slope. The 2023 vintage, sunny and generous, produced white wines of fine fruity maturity whilst preserving the freshness and tension that define the high-altitude terroirs of the Côte de Beaune.
Tasting profile
On the nose, a floral freshness of white flowers and hawthorn mingles with white-fleshed fruits (pear, peach, citrus), a delicate buttery note, and a whisper of flint that speaks of the limestone terroir. Beneath these aromatic layers, a deep minerality asserts itself, carried by a light hazelnut note and finely integrated wood. On the palate, the wine is taut and precise, balancing the vintage's fruity richness with fresh acidity and minerality that lend this expression remarkable length and straightness. The finish is long and mineral, with a final note of damp stone and persistent white flowers.
The domaine
Chapelle de Blagny is among the few producers who valorise with such precision the high-altitude climats shared between Meursault and Blagny, thus perpetuating the tradition of exceptional terroirs too often overlooked by enthusiasts. Its commitment to precision and minerality shines through in this Les Ravelles cuvée, a faithful expression of a lieu-dit whose discretion is matched only by its quality.
Tasting and pairing
This Meursault 1er Cru Les Ravelles 2023 is best enjoyed between 12 and 14°C, in a Burgundy glass, after a brief opening in a decanter to reveal its minerality and floral aromas. It will also reward cellaring for two to five years to fully unfold its complexity. It pairs beautifully with poached chicken in cream sauce, noble fish in sauce, pan-seared scallops, or a soft-paste Burgundy cheese, whose finesse will respond wonderfully to the mineral tension and fruity elegance of this altitude Premier Cru.
