White flowers, citrus, hazelnut and mineral tension define this ample, precise Grand Cru Blanc from Domaine Vincent Bouzereau, built for years in the cellar.
The Corton Grand Cru Blanc Les Fiètres 2024 from Domaine Vincent Bouzereau is the crowning white expression of a family with viticultural roots reaching back to the 16th century, carefully acquired in 2003 by Vincent and Aline Bouzereau. Perched on the Corton hillside, the Clos des Fiètres is a singular terroir that yields Chardonnay of uncommon complexity. Rich roundness, finesse and minerality converge here, expressing all the fat and power of Corton's character. Only a handful of barrels are produced each year from a parcel of just 15 ares, shared between two owners, which underscores its genuine rarity.
Terroir and vineyard
The Clos des Fiètres sits ideally positioned between Corton Perrières and Corton Chaumes, at the edge of Aloxe-Corton village, largely sheltered by an old stone wall. The name Fiètres derives from "fierte," meaning coffin, possibly evoking an ancient cemetery at Aloxe-Corton. Domaine Vincent Bouzereau's 15 ares are planted with Chardonnay of around sixty years, rooted in red clay and gravel that impart great density and fine salinity on the finish. This ferruginous red clay, married with the chalky bedrock of the Corton hill, is precisely what gives this white Corton its particularly rich, meaty and mineral character. Viticulture follows sustainable practice, including soil work, simple Guyot pruning, judicious shoot thinning and hand harvest. Winemaking is traditional and faithful to the domaine's philosophy: gentle pressing, cold settling for 24 hours in tank, fermentation with indigenous yeasts only, 15 to 18 months ageing in oak of which 30 percent new, racking after malolactic fermentation, light filtration if needed, bottling at the domaine.
Tasting profile
The robe shines with bright golden yellow and green reflections. The nose is fresh and intricate, offering flint, citrus, lemon and grapefruit, white stone fruits, pear and apple, and the characteristic menthol notes of a fine Corton blanc. Subtle toasted hazelnut and vanilla oak, well integrated, add natural complexity and depth to this bouquet. On the palate, the wine displays the fat and power expected of Corton, anchored by present freshness that grants it finesse and length. Refined aromas marry fruitiness with minerality, typical of the greatest whites from the Corton hill. The finish is long, saline and remarkably persistent, with returning notes of flint and citrus that signal the terroir's stature. A wine of substantial build and flawless elegance, best cellared for the next five to ten years.
The domaine
The Bouzereau family has tended vineyards across generations since the 16th century. Vincent Bouzereau established himself in 1990 on family land from the former priory of the Château de Meursault, now working roughly ten hectares scattered across eight villages of the Côte de Beaune. Alongside his wife Aline and their children Louis and Clotilde, he continually refines his approach to viticulture, winemaking and ageing in pursuit of ever greater precision and sincerity.
Food pairing
This Corton Grand Cru Blanc complements carpaccio of scallops, turbot with Dijon sauce, grilled Breton lobster with tarragon butter, sweetbreads with morels and cream, or Bresse chicken in champagne sauce. Serve between 12 and 14°C with 30 minutes of decanting suggested in its youth to reveal the full richness, mineral power and complexity of this Grand Cru from one of Meursault's most principled family vignerons.
