Fresh red fruits, flowers and garrigue notes. An elegant and precise Bandol rosé from Château de Pibarnon, fresh, saline and with remarkable structure.
The 2024 Bandol Rosé from Château de Pibarnon is among the most admired and eagerly awaited rosés from the French vineyard, a rosé unlike any other that carries the full singularity of an extraordinary terroir and the vision of a family whose commitment since 1978 has established Pibarnon among Bandol's emblematic estates. Its ageing potential and structure do not diminish the freshness one expects from a rosé. The full and flavourful palate bears no resemblance to rosé stereotypes. A rosé for all seasons, capable of ageing and surprising.

Terroir and vines

Overlooking the Mediterranean and rolling across hillsides dotted with olives, cypress, mulberry, oleander, pine and holm oak, Pibarnon's vineyard is truly magnificent, situated among the highest slopes of the Bandol terroir. Perched at 300 metres above the Mediterranean, Château de Pibarnon commands the Bandol appellation with majesty. This family estate benefits from rare Triassic limestone terroir, optimal sunshine and a microclimate tempered by the sea. Its subsoil of blue marl is a distinctive feature that lends Pibarnon's wines power and elegance. The 2024 rosé blend comprises 65 per cent Mourvèdre and 35 per cent Cinsault. Vinification is carried out with precision: the Cinsault is pressed directly, bringing brightness and crisp fruit. The Mourvèdre comes from direct bleeding and pressing. Mourvèdre dominates the blend, contributing the spiced complexity that distinguishes Pibarnon rosés from all others. The estate has been certified organic since the 2019 vintage.

The 2024 vintage

The 2024 vintage in Provence is marked by well-preserved natural freshness, with cool nights that favoured slow and harmonious grape maturity and remarkably well-retained natural acidity. This climatic profile is particularly favourable for expressing Pibarnon's rosés, whose elevated position at 300 metres naturally tempers the terroir's solar generosity and preserves the freshness and mineral tension characteristic of this great estate.

Tasting profile

The colour is pale pink with faint salmon reflections, bright and clear. The nose is complex with notes of fresh red berries, white flowers, citrus and a subtle mineral and spiced touch characteristic of Mourvèdre. On the palate, the wine is powerful and structured for a rosé, with vivid natural freshness, savoury fruit and fine minerality that brings tension and depth. The salinity characteristic of Pibarnon extends the finish with natural elegance that echoes the Mediterranean's proximity. A rosé that stands apart from the light and fleeting versions so often associated with Provence: here, the Mourvèdre's complexity and depth impose their personality with a nobility and persistence that make it a great table wine in its own right.

The estate

Henri de Saint-Victor created Château de Pibarnon in 1978, establishing it within decades among Bandol's emblematic properties. Since 2000, his son Éric de Saint-Victor has led the estate, continuously refining the expression of wines from the limestone terroirs of Cadière-d'Azur. Respect for viticultural tradition, hand harvesting, precise vinification and careful ageing give Pibarnon's cuvées a strong identity, both true to Bandol's character and resolutely elegant.

Food pairing

This Bandol Rosé accompanies Mediterranean cooking, colourful and inventive, with gentle and rare spices. It pairs beautifully with Provençal bouillabaisse, grilled sea bass with garrigue herbs, red mullet with tapenade, lamb daube with olives, oven-baked ratatouille niçoise or a Provence cheese board such as Banon or Pélardon. Served between 10 and 12°C, it will reveal all the complexity, depth and saline minerality of an exceptional Bandol rosé.
