Strawberry, citrus and wild maquis notes. A saline and delicate Corsican rosé from Domaine Sant Armettu, fresh, precise and genuinely appealing.
The Corse Sartène Rosé Rosumarinu 2025 from Domaine Sant Armettu is the most joyful and immediately captivating expression of this emblematic estate in southern Corsica, a bottle that carries in its very name the essence of the island: Rosumarinu, rosemary in Corsican, that wild herb of the maquis whose powerful perfume colours the hillsides of Tizzano where Gilles Seroin's vines are rooted. A rosé of pleasure and conviviality that surprises with its natural freshness and marine salinity despite the heat of Corsica's most southerly terroir.
The terroir and the domaine
Domaine Sant Armettu takes its name from a healer hermit who, according to Corsican legend, chose this singular site at the far north of the Sartène appellation to practise his gift, a story that speaks volumes about the preserved and unique character of this vineyard. In 1964 Paul Seroin established himself on these southern Corsican lands, before his son Gilles took over in 1996, building the domaine's first cellar and deciding to vinify the old vine grapes himself rather than send them to the Sartène cooperative as before. Since then, Domaine Sant Armettu has become one of the most consistent and demanding references of the appellation. Gilles Seroin, inspired by Burgundian approaches to winemaking, has developed a strong and unique domaine identity rooted in Corsica's native grape varieties, Sciaccarellu foremost among them, planted on the granite slopes that overlook the Gulf of Propriano. The Rosumarinu rosé comes from the Tizzano hillsides, where areno-clayey granite soils are characteristic of deep southern Corsica, poor and well-draining earth rich in silica, beaten by sea winds, which give the wines their natural freshness, mineral tension and that subtle saline touch that marks the terroir. Vinification takes place in stainless steel at low temperature, with destemming and direct pressing followed by traditional four-week fermentation, then fully in stainless steel, a deliberate choice to preserve the purity of fruit and the natural freshness of the varieties intact.
Tasting profile
The colour is bright, luminous pink, vivid and appetising. The nose is generous and perfumed, immediately expressive: aromas of fresh red fruit, wild strawberry, redcurrant, small red berries, mingle with notes of butterscotch and flowers, with a light touch of white peach and citrus that brings freshness and complexity. The Corsican maquis makes itself known discreetly through a subtle, seductive herbaceous note. On the palate, the structure is balanced and generous: the attack is lively and clean, carried by natural freshness, the body round and open, and the finish pleasantly surprising with its mineral salinity, the direct signature of Tizzano's granite soils, and a persistent fruity return that invites you back to the glass. A Corsican rosé in all its sincerity and generosity, to be drunk now in all its spring vivacity.
The domaine
Since his first vintage in 1996, Gilles Seroin has continuously refined his style and explored the riches of the island's endemic varieties, Sciaccarellu, Nielluccio, Vermentinu, developing a range of distinctive micro-parcellaries whose great Myrtus cuvées are aged in large wooden vessels in the spirit of great Burgundian age-worthy wines. Bettane & Desseauve regularly recognises him as one of Sartène's most consistent and talented producers, noted for his innate sense of balance in winemaking and his ability to draw the best from old vines on an exceptional terroir.
Food pairings
This Rosumarinu Rosé pairs beautifully with Corsican charcuterie, coppa, lonzu, figatellu, a plate of soft Corsican cheeses like fresh Brocciu, marinated anchovies in olive oil, sole fillet with crisp vegetables, grilled prawns with garlic or herbed white pizza. Perfect as a summer apéritif, served well chilled between 8 and 10°C, it embodies island spirit in all its lightness and generosity.
