Vermentino from southern Corsica. Floral, saline, notes of rosemary and fine mineral tension. Fresh, elegant, with a delicate finish.
The Corse Sartène Blanc Rosumarinu 2025 from Domaine Sant Armettu is unanimously recognised as the most accessible and immediately seductive white cuvée from the domaine, an assemblage of Vermentino and Biancu Ghjentile that embodies with freshness and candour the sunny and mineral character of the Sartène appellation. Rated 92/100 by Revue du Vin de France in recent vintages, this floral and vibrant white, described as "fine and floral, precise and refined", transports you directly to the granite hillsides of Tizzano swept by the sea breezes of the Gulf of Propriano.
The terroir and the vines
This cuvée comes from the hillsides of Tizzano, on argilo-granitic sandy soils characteristic of southern Corsica, poor and well-draining earth whose silica content gives the white wines a freshness, tension and saline minerality that are the domaine's hallmark. The assemblage brings together two endemic grape varieties of the island: Vermentino at 90 per cent, king of Corsican whites, expressive, floral and mineral, and Biancu Ghjentile at 10 per cent, an extremely rare and confidential variety whose name literally means "white of noble origin" in Corsican, which brings a delicate floral touch and aromatic complexity that few vignerons still cultivate on the island. It is precisely this original tandem that distinguishes Rosumarinu blanc from classical Vermentino wines: the Biancu Ghjentile brings a more airy floral note, a finer natural acidity and a complexity that expresses itself progressively on the palate with discreet elegance. Harvest is manual, with direct pressing after destemming and sorting. A cold maceration between 5 and 8°C for 48 hours precedes vinification in stainless steel, followed by complete ageing on fine lees with gentle stirring, a deliberate choice of stainless steel to preserve intact the purity of the fruit and natural freshness of the island grape varieties. The domaine has been certified organic since 2021.
Tasting profile
The colour is pale yellow with slightly greenish reflections, limpid and luminous, of immediate visual freshness. The nose is floral and appealing, with a directness and delicacy that impose themselves from the first opening: aromas of fresh citrus, green lemon and grapefruit, intertwine with notes of white flowers, acacia, hawthorn, almond blossom, and a light touch of white peach and discreet exotic fruits. At the back of the glass, granite manifests itself through a fine, fresh and very precise minerality that Revue du Vin de France aptly describes as "granite on the palate, with beautiful mineral bitterness". On the palate, the wine is tender and well-balanced, with a light and silky texture that expresses itself through fresh floral notes and a natural tension well mastered. The acidity is lively and precise, bringing momentum and drinkability to a harmonious and flattering whole. The finish is lively, open and saline, with a persistent mineral freshness that immediately invites the next glass. A white of immediate pleasure and sincerity, to be enjoyed in its prime youth to benefit from all the brightness and freshness of its floral and fruity aromas.
The domaine
The Seroin family has been established on these southern Corsican lands since 1964. Gilles Seroin created the domaine's first cellar in 1996, inspired by the Burgundian model in his winemaking approaches. Over 40 hectares certified organic since 2021, he cultivates a broad palette of native Corsican grape varieties, Sciaccarellu, Vermentino, Nielluccio, Biancu Ghjentile, Minustellu, Aleaticu, which his children Guillaume and Jeanne now contribute to enhancing alongside him. Bettane & Desseauve regularly praise the domaine as one of the most consistent and demanding references in the Sartène appellation, with a flawless record across all three colours.
Food and wine pairing
This Corse Sartène Blanc Rosumarinu pairs beautifully with light Corsican charcuterie, coppa, lonzu, grilled fish with olive oil and maquis herbs, seafood, tempura prawns, an octopus salad with olives and citrus or a plate of fresh Corsican cheeses such as Brocciu. Served well chilled between 10 and 12°C, it will also be delightful as a summer aperitif, in the light, floral and sunny spirit that is the joyful signature of this cuvée.
