Gerin's iconic cuvée, Les Grandes Places 2023 delivers Syrah of rare intensity, deep and velvety, blending violet, noble smoke and racey power.
Côte Rôtie Les Grandes Places 2023 Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin
Les Grandes Places is one of the most emblematic lieux-dits of Côte-Rôtie, renowned for its racey power, depth and remarkable capacity to age. Situated on vertiginous slopes of brown schist north of Ampuis, this terroir naturally produces dense, structured and intensely aromatic Syrahs. Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin signs a flagship cuvée here each year, combining precise parcel management, meticulous manual harvesting and long ageing to reveal all the nobility of the place.
The 2023 vintage expresses itself here with remarkable clarity: dark and precise nose, a blend of wild blackberry, black cherry, violet, black pepper, graphite and a smoky touch. The palate is vertical, deep, built on a fine but firm tannin structure, with natural concentration carried by mineral freshness typical of schist soils. The finish, persistent and savoury, reveals Gerin's signature elegance, a balance where power and finesse meet.
A wine for long cellaring, Les Grandes Places 2023 will evolve over 15 to 20 years, gaining in complexity and gamey, spiced and truffle notes. Decant in its youth.
