Côte Rôtie Champin Le Seigneur 2023 from Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin, a refined and velvety wine blending ripe dark fruits, violet and fine spice with seductive, perfectly balanced palate.
Côte Rôtie Champin Le Seigneur 2023 Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin

Champin Le Seigneur is the reference cuvée of the domaine, a parcellary blend drawn from several major Côte Rôtie sectors, offering a complete reading of the appellation. Across these slopes where micaschists, brown schists and occasional granite seams define the terroir, Syrah gains aromatic complexity and texture, while a small proportion of Viognier contributes to the natural elegance of the Gerin style. Under Michaël and Alexis Gerin's stewardship, the philosophy pursues precision: attentive viticulture, calibrated ripeness and ageing focused on finesse rather than power.

The 2023 vintage embodies this quality drive: an immediate nose of ripe dark fruits, violet, discreet pepper and a characteristic smoked note from the schist soils. The palate is direct and savoury, fleshy yet energetic, carried by fine tannins and a velvety texture that signatures the domaine's contemporary classical style. The balance between depth and freshness makes this 2023 particularly harmonious, with a long, refined, saline finish.

Serving and ageing: accessible in youth after generous aeration, it will gain complexity after four to six years' rest. Drinking window ten to twelve years. Food pairings: grilled veal chop, duck breast, herb-roasted lamb, braised oriau or forest-inspired cuisine.
