Deep and complex, marrying black fruits, garrigue and smoky notes with an ample, velvety palate where age brings remarkable elegance.
Gigondas Terrasse du Diable 2015, Domaine Les Pallières
From the high terraces of Gigondas, between 300 and 400 metres altitude, Domaine Les Pallières, jointly owned by the Brunier family (Vieux Télégraphe) and Kermit Lynch, presents Terrasse du Diable, an emblematic cuvée from wild, stony terrain of particular ripeness. The 2015 vintage, sunny yet balanced, offers here a powerful expression, fresh and deeply rooted in the limestone of the northern face of the Dentelles massif.
The vineyard, planted predominantly with Grenache alongside Syrah and Mourvèdre, benefits from careful viticulture and low yields. Fermentation takes place in vats then large wooden foudres, without excess extraction, to preserve the natural elegance the Bruniers seek in these altitude terroirs. Long ageing refines the structure and reveals a wine at once opulent and taut, built for the cellar.
The nose opens on garrigue, black cherry, warm plum, pepper and hot stone. The palate is ample, structured, with tight but ripe tannins, and remarkable freshness for the vintage. The finish, long and lightly smoky, confirms the signature of Terrasse du Diable: depth, directness and mineral character.
Food pairing and serving: ideal with roasted lamb with herbs, grilled game, sweet spice tagine or Provençal daube. Serve around 16–17 °C. Cellaring potential: another 8 to 10 years without difficulty, the wine in fine form now but capable of gaining further tertiary complexity.
