A rare Friuli variety, intense and elegant.
From the eastern hills of Friuli, the Schioppettino Venezia Giulia 2023 from the I Clivi domaine is an authentic and deeply territorial expression of this emblematic indigenous variety. Founded by Ferdinando Zanusso, I Clivi has established itself as a reference point for natural wine from Friuli, with an approach respectful of living vitality, unadulterated winemaking and a constant search for purity and energy.
The Schioppettino vines are planted on the marly and sandstone soils typical of the eastern Collio, rich in minerals and encouraging slow, balanced ripening. Cultivation is conducted without synthetic inputs, with moderate yields. Fermentations occur with indigenous yeasts, without correction or manipulation, allowing the variety and vintage to express themselves freely. Ageing, discreet and controlled, aims to preserve the freshness and aromatic precision of the wine.
The style of this Schioppettino 2023 is at once spiced, airy and digestible. The nose reveals notes of black pepper, wild berries, black cherry and aromatic herbs, with a lightly smoky touch. On the palate, the matter is fine and taut, driven by beautiful natural acidity and supple yet structuring tannins. The whole is vibrant and sincere, with a long, fresh finish, typical of Schioppettino well made.
A red wine of character yet very approachable, ideal with terroir-driven Italian cooking, fine charcuterie, roasted poultry or lightly spiced dishes. Best enjoyed now for its brightness and honesty, with a potential for ageing of 5 to 7 years.
