White flowers, citrus, hazelnut and striking minerality. One of Burgundy's rarest Grand Crus from Domaine Faiveley, broad-shouldered, precise and built for the cellar.
The Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru 2022 from Domaine Faiveley is one of the rarest and most precious expressions from the Côte de Beaune, drawn from a discreet Grand Cru of just 3.68 hectares, nestled between Bâtard Montrachet and Criots Bâtard Montrachet in the heart of Puligny Montrachet.

A wine bearing the Domaine Faiveley signature from the 2022 vintage, produced on the Grand Cru Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet, one of Burgundy's smallest and rarest Grand Crus. Made from Chardonnay grown on limestone soils of remarkable richness and depth, it embodies the essence of white Côte de Beaune, marrying ripe fruit character, profound minerality and impressive length.

Ageing and provenance

From vines planted on Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet, this Chardonnay benefits from limestone terroir of exceptional quality, with brown limestone soils rich in clay and active limestone, fostering optimal ripeness and natural aromatic concentration of rare intensity. Domaine Faiveley's parcel, tended with the rigour and precision that define the house, yields a Chardonnay of rare richness and complexity, refined by ageing in Burgundian oak that polishes without masking terroir. The 2022 vintage, sunny and precocious, gave Burgundy white wines of striking fruit richness, driven by remarkable ripeness and natural concentration seldom achieved, while preserving the freshness and tension characteristic of the greatest terroirs.

Tasting profile

On the nose, white and stone fruits (vine peach, apricot and preserved pear) mingle with acacia flower, a buttery note and a whisper of flower honey. Beneath these opulent layers, profound flint and chalk minerality asserts itself, joined by a hint of toasted hazelnut and finely woven wood. On the palate, the wine is broad and silky, balancing the vintage's fruit richness with fresh acidity and minerality that lend remarkable tension and length. The finish is very long and complex, closing with flint, white flowers and preserved fruit of remarkable persistence.

The domaine

Faiveley is one of Burgundy's most respected and historic houses, founded in Nuits Saint Georges in 1825 and family-owned for seven generations. Recognised for the precision and consistency of its wines across the Côte d'Or, Domaine Faiveley expresses its full mastery of Burgundy's greatest terroirs in this Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet, with unwavering commitment to quality and terroir fidelity.

Tasting and food pairing

This Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru 2022 is best enjoyed between 13 and 15°C, in a large Burgundy glass, after decanting for an hour to fully express its aromatic complexity. It will also reward cellaring for five to ten years to reveal its exceptional ageing potential. It pairs beautifully with Breton lobster in cream sauce, sole meunière with truffles, scallops in the shell, or aged Comté matured thirty months, whose richness and depth will answer perfectly to the ripe fruit character and minerality that define this exceptional Grand Cru.
