Rose, lychee, ginger and soft spices. Aromatic and silky Gewurztraminer from Domaine Camille Braun, fresh, generous and with a long finish.
The Alsace Gewurztraminer Luft Cuvée Annabelle 2022 from Domaine Camille Braun takes the Gewurztraminer grape in an unexpected direction. There is no syrup here, but rather a generous restraint. Dedicated to the winemaker's daughter, the Annabelle cuvée is a delicate wine of beautiful complexity, with aromas of overripe exotic fruits, born from the Luft lieu-dit, swept by constant wind.

Terroir and vineyard

Luft is a climat on the eastern face of Orschwihr, facing west, planted in deep clays and Keuper marls, where a regular wind blows, hence its name meaning air. The clay-limestone soil holds water reserves that give the wine body and roundness, never dryness. The Gewurztraminer vines are certified organic and biodynamic (Demeter). Vinification follows the Demeter charter, with temperature-controlled fermentation using indigenous yeasts and ageing on fine lees until bottling.

Tasting profile

The colour is brilliant gold with silver reflections. The nose expresses rose, spice and exotic fruits, but in a refined register, less peppery than from the sunnier slopes. The palate has volume, thanks to the clay's depth, tempered by the valley breeze with an unexpected freshness. A delicate wine of beautiful complexity, with aromas of overripe exotic fruits, rich and finely sweet yet structured, tightening into a clean, saline finish.

The domaine

Heirs to a winemaking tradition dating back to the 17th century, Christophe and Chantal Braun, third generation of Domaine Camille Braun, work around fifteen hectares in organic and biodynamic farming at Orschwihr, the first wine town when approaching the Alsace vineyard from the south. The domaine is recognised for the precision and elegance of its lieu-dit wines.

Food pairing

This Gewurztraminer pairs beautifully with foie gras or spiced dishes. It will also accompany strong cheeses, tarte Tatin or a warm chocolate cake. Serve between 8 and 12°C. Drink now or keep for five to ten years.
