Mineral and taut, with citrus, white peach and floral notes. Domaine Camille Braun's precise, vibrant Riesling, fresh, saline and deeply elegant.
The Alsace Riesling Luft 2024 from Domaine Camille Braun is an ample, profound Riesling refreshed by a breath of wind, more meditative than showy. The lieu-dit Luft, meaning air, takes its name from the wind that blows there, and it is this wind that gives this Riesling its freshness and tension.
Terroir and vineyard
Luft sits on the western face of Orschwihr, planted on deep clays and Keuper marls with a clayey-chalky terroir. The soil's water reserves give the wine fullness, never dryness, while regular wind keeps the grapes fresh. The vines are certified organic and biodynamic (Demeter), with manual harvesting. Vinification follows the Demeter charter: temperature-controlled fermentation with indigenous yeasts, then ageing on fine lees until bottling.
On the palate
The colour is pale yellow with golden glints. The nose mingles ripe citrus, white peach and flowers, with a chalky undertone and hints of smoke. On the palate, there is amplitude, yet always refreshed by the wind you sense in the texture. The wine is full-bodied, the finish long, cool, almost serene. A reserve Riesling that reveals itself slowly.
The domaine
Heirs to a winemaking tradition dating to the 17th century, Christophe and Chantal Braun, the third generation at Domaine Camille Braun, tend some fifteen hectares in organic and biodynamic farming at Orschwihr, the first wine village when approaching Alsace's vineyard from the south. The domaine is recognized for the precision and elegance of its cuvées from specific sites: Luft, Bollenberg, Neuberg, Lippelsberg and Sonnenglanz.
Food pairing
This Riesling pairs beautifully with fish, shellfish, cream-based poultry or goat cheese. Serve between 8 and 12 °C. Drink now or cellar for several years.
