Guyonne
Refined Japanese botanicals, cherry blossom, green tea and yuzu. An elegant and delicate gin from Suntory, fresh, aromatic and ideal in cocktails.
The Gin Suntory Roku Original is a Japanese gin that celebrates the four seasons through six signature botanicals, distilled at the Osaka distillery using several methods to reveal their full aromatic subtlety.
A bottle presented by the Suntory house, distilled from eight traditional gin botanicals combined with six emblematic Japanese botanicals, sakura, sakura leaf, yuzu, sansho, sencha tea and gyokuro tea, each distilled using the method best suited to reveal its own character. This gin is bottled at 47 degrees. Roku, meaning six in Japanese, remains one of the most emblematic expressions of the Japanese gin renaissance, continuing the artisanal tradition of the Suntory house.
Ageing and origin
Distilled from a blend of classic gin botanicals and six Japanese botanicals harvested throughout the seasons, this gin marries the traditional aromatic structure of juniper and citrus with the delicate floral and vegetal character of Japan. Each Japanese botanical is distilled separately using the most appropriate technique, vacuum distillation to preserve the floral freshness of sakura, maceration for tea, to reveal the full subtlety of each ingredient before final blending. The Osaka distillery, where this gin is made, benefits from renowned pure water and distillation expertise inherited from over a century of experience in Japanese spirits.
Tasting profile
On the nose, delicate floral freshness of cherry blossom mingles with vibrant yuzu citrus, a herbaceous note of green tea and a hint of sansho pepper spice. Beneath these aromatic layers, the classic structure of juniper and coriander emerges in the background, carried by a light woody note. A touch of cherry leaf and a hint of umami add further complexity, the distinctive signature of this Japanese expression. On the palate, the gin is soft and harmonious, balancing floral freshness with a well-defined classic aromatic structure. The palate reveals notes of yuzu, cherry blossom, sencha tea and a light sansho spice that frames the whole. The finish is soft and silky, with a slightly umami and floral final note.
The house
Suntory is one of the great historic houses of Japanese spirits, founded in 1899, a pioneer of Japanese whisky and today recognised worldwide for its blending and distillation expertise. Roku gin, launched to celebrate the Japanese seasons through six emblematic botanicals, embodies this same artisanal rigour applied to a category in full growth.
Tasting and food pairings
This Suntory Roku Original is best enjoyed as a Gin Tonic, garnished with a slice of yuzu or a cherry leaf, to fully reveal its floral and citrus freshness. It also works beautifully in delicate cocktails that highlight its Japanese floral notes. It will find a pleasing harmony with sashimi, light Japanese cuisine, seafood or green tea pastries, whose delicacy will respond beautifully to the floral freshness and aromatic subtlety characteristic of this gin.
