Floral and mineral, with citrus, quince and a whisper of beeswax. A taut Chenin, precise and of remarkable complexity.
Vouvray Sec Clos du Bourg 2023, Domaine Huet
Among the three great terroirs of Domaine Huet, Clos du Bourg holds a special place. Situated on an ideally exposed hillside and resting on thin brown clay soils above limestone, it is arguably the lieu-dit that gives Vouvray's most intense and architecturally refined wines. Here, Chenin Blanc achieves a purity and depth that is remarkable, with a minerality that asserts itself from the first sip.
The 2023 vintage confirms this identity: a vibrant, precise, taut dry wine, carved from stone. The nose mingles ripe lemon, green apple, crisp pear, white flowers and a subtle note of warm flint. The palate impresses with its energy: straight, soaring, driven by a luminous acidity that sculpts a dense yet nervy fruit. The finish, long and salivating, reveals a calcareous minerality of great elegance, the eternal signature of Clos du Bourg.
Domaine Huet, an inescapable figure of Loire biodynamics, delivers here an exemplary cuvée, sovereign in balance and purity. A great dry Vouvray, already splendid in its youth, yet destined for 15 to 20 years of ageing, where it will develop honeyed and beeswax notes while retaining its mineral backbone.
Suggested pairings: noble fish, shellfish, roasted poultry, refined vegetable cuisine, fresh or lightly aged goat cheeses.
Grape variety: 100% Chenin Blanc
