A Grand Cru from Gevrey-Chambertin with depth and breed, marrying the intensity of dark fruit, fine-grained tannins, and impressive length. Built for the cellar.
Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru 2018 Domaine Henri Richard
From one of the historic great terroirs of Gevrey-Chambertin, the Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru 2018 from Domaine Henri Richard embodies a profound and refined expression of Côte de Nuits Pinot Noir. The domaine, managed with an artisanal spirit and respect for living vineyard practices, pursues careful viticulture and restrained winemaking, prioritising the purity of fruit and an honest reading of terroir.
The climat of Mazoyères-Chambertin rests on deep, rich argilo-limestone soils that are structuring in character, giving rise to wines of great amplitude, combining natural power with textural elegance. Often spoken of alongside its neighbour Chambertin, this Grand Cru distinguishes itself through marked aromatic depth and remarkable ageing potential.
The 2018 vintage, sunny and generous, brings here a dense and ripe concentration without excess. The nose opens onto intense aromas of fully ripe dark and red fruits, mingled with liquorice, gentle spice, forest floor and a touch of smoke. On the palate, the wine impresses through its broad, balanced structure, carried by fine but assertive tannins, a lovely underlying freshness, and a long, deep, persistent finish.
A serious wine for keeping, this Mazoyères-Chambertin 2018 will reward a few years' rest in the cellar and evolve favourably over 15 to 20 years, gaining complexity and harmony. It will pair beautifully with characterful red meats, game, braised dishes, or gastronomic cooking with earthy flavours.
A Grand Cru of genuine expression, at once powerful, precise and elegant, true to the style of Domaine Henri Richard and the nobility of Gevrey-Chambertin's terroir.
