Peat smoke, buttered caramel and lemon, generous peat that does not overwhelm the fruit.
Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 12 57.9°
Produced by Glengyle distillery in Campbeltown, Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 12 embodies the artisanal and uncompromising vision of this historic house brought back into production in the early 2000s. Made in small quantities, this single malt is distilled slowly from heavily peated barley and bottled cask-strength, without chill filtration or colouring, to preserve all of its aromatic intensity.
This Batch 12 at 57.9° perfectly reflects the singular style of Campbeltown, at the intersection of peated power, maritime structure and a certain rustic elegance. The ageing, conducted mostly in bourbon casks supplemented by a portion of sherry casks, brings depth and balance to the expressive peat.
On the nose, the smoke is frank and enveloping, mingling cold ash, wood fire and sea spray, with notes of candied lemon, vanilla and a lightly medicinal touch. The palate is powerful, dense and oily, marked by intense yet controlled peat, aromas of toasted malt, black pepper, salty caramel and ripe yellow fruits. The finish is long, dry and persistent, on peat, salt and an elegant subtle bitterness.
Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 12 speaks to lovers of peated whiskies of character, seeking both power, authenticity and complexity. Best enjoyed slowly, neat or with a few drops of water to reveal the full aromatic range. A single malt of strong personality, true to the spirit of Campbeltown and crafted for discerning drinkers.
