Candied fruits, honey, chocolate and soft spices. Diplomatico's emblematic Venezuelan rum, rich, silky with a lovely length on the palate.
Rhum Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva is the emblematic and most recognised expression from Venezuelan house Diplomatico, a blend of rums aged up to 12 years in American oak casks, and has become one of the world's benchmark sipping rums from the Hispanic Caribbean.

A release from Diplomatico, distilled from Venezuelan sugarcane molasses in pot still and column stills, then aged up to 12 years in ex-bourbon American oak before final blending. Bottled at 40 per cent abv. Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva remains the flagship of the house range, celebrated by enthusiasts and professionals worldwide and recipient of numerous international awards, establishing itself as an unmissable reference among South American sipping rums.

Ageing and Origin

Crafted from a blend of distillates from pot stills and continuous columns, this rum marries the aromatic richness and oily texture characteristic of pot still with the lightness and finesse brought by column distillation. Twelve years of ageing in ex-bourbon American oak casks impart a honeyed vanilla sweetness, caramelised richness and woody roundness that have secured this expression's world reputation. Based since 1959 in the Los Llanos region of Venezuela, Diplomatico distillery benefits from exceptional sugarcane and blending expertise passed down through generations.

Tasting Profile

On the nose, an opulent richness of caramel, molasses and candied fruits blends with creamy vanilla, candied orange and a whisper of soft spices evoking cinnamon and nutmeg. Beneath these indulgent layers, the generous, oily texture of pot still asserts itself, carried by light notes of coffee and milk chocolate. A hint of vanillated oak wood and a floral touch add further complexity, testament to 12 years of maturation. On the palate, the rum is dense and opulent, balancing sweet richness with well-judged warmth and remarkable roundness. The palate reveals notes of caramel, candied fruits, soft spices and a subtle cocoa bitterness that provides structure. The finish is long and warm, with lingering caramel and vanilla of remarkable persistence.

The House

Diplomatico is a Venezuelan house founded in 1959 in the Los Llanos region, recognised worldwide for the richness and generosity of its sipping rums. Its philosophy, built on precise blending of distillates from different still types and long ageing in American oak casks, has earned it numerous international distinctions and unanimous recognition among lovers of Hispanic rums.

Tasting and Pairings

This Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva is best enjoyed neat in a tulip glass at room temperature to fully appreciate the caramelised richness and aromatic generosity of this sipping rum. It works beautifully over ice for a more approachable tasting, or in a revisited Old Fashioned or Sour where its richness truly shines. It finds fine harmony with dark chocolate desserts, a mellow cigar, a ristretto or an aged hard cheese, whose richness will respond wonderfully to the caramelised opulence and vanilla generosity characteristic of this great Venezuelan rum.
