Red and black fruits with spice and a subtle earthiness. Generous and approachable Maranges from Bachelet, with supple tannins and immediate appeal.
The Maranges Rouge 2024 from Domaine Bertrand Bachelet is the emblematic cuvée and truest expression of this domaine, nestled in the heart of Maranges, the southernmost and most understated appellation of the Côte de Beaune. It delivers immediate red fruit character, enlivened by fine spice notes. Young vigneron Bertrand Bachelet brings a quiet confidence that shows clearly in his wines. His creations reflect his personality, charming and sincere, with appealing transparency and subtle depth.

Terroir and vineyard

Maranges is the last appellation on the Côte de Beaune to receive AOP status, awarded in May 1989, and the most southerly of the region. Domaine Bertrand Bachelet is based in Dezize-lès-Maranges, one of three villages within the appellation, on the argilo-calcareous soils typical of the southern Côte de Beaune, which give Pinot Noir its fine structure and natural minerality. The reds, which represent most production, are destemmed in concrete vats with silky tannins. Grapes ferment destemmed in concrete tanks for roughly three weeks. During this period, pump-overs are favoured over punch-downs to preserve freshness and silky texture. New oak is used sparingly, and vinification is gentle and respectful. This preserves the character of the grape and the expression of terroir.

Tasting profile

Deep ruby colour with violet glints, powerful nose showing raspberry, blackcurrant and preserved red fruit aromas. The palate is silky and elegant. Appetizing notes of raspberry and redcurrant animate the nose. The mouth is silky and delicate. The 2024 vintage, marked by natural freshness, expresses all the vibrancy and crispness of well-made Pinot Noir, with those fine spice notes that awaken the senses and invite another glass. A wine of immediate, honest pleasure, ready to drink today yet capable of evolving gracefully over three to five years.

The domaine

Bertrand Bachelet took over the family domaine in 2011 following his father Jean-Louis, representing the fourth generation. The 13 hectares are spread across the Côte de Beaune between Maranges and Pommard. Work in vineyard and cellar is carried out with precision and passion, deeply rooted in Burgundian tradition. Bertrand Bachelet, a talented vigneron of the Côte de Beaune, embodies a new generation of Burgundian winemakers combining traditional craft with contemporary sensibility. His recent vintages perfectly illustrate this evolution, with juicy, infused reds and bright, gourmand whites.

Food pairings

Young, it pairs beautifully with beef cuts like côte de bœuf or filet mignon; with age, it accompanies spiced sauced dishes perfectly. This Maranges works well with red meats or more exotic fare such as spring rolls or grilled ribs and braised pork. It pairs equally well with fine country terrine, herb-roasted poultry or soft-paste cheeses like Brillat-Savarin. Serve between 14 and 16°C, lightly chilled, to reveal the full fruity generosity and sincerity of this red Maranges from one of the most engaging families of southern Côte de Beaune.
