Floral and fruity with citrus, white peach and exotic notes. A fresh and approachable white from south-west France by Lionel Osmin, light on the palate and thoroughly enjoyable.
Lionel Osmin's Villa Chambre d'Amour 2025 is one of the most seductive and popular off-dry white wines from south-west France, a Hachette Wine Guide 2025 star whose poetic name comes from an emblematic spot on the Basque coast, the Chambre d'Amour cave near Anglet, a romantic and legendary grotto that the tide covers with each flux. A tender, fruity and generous wine in the spirit of Premières Grives from Tariquet, yet finer, more elegant and more aromatic according to those familiar with both cuvées.
Terroir and grape varieties
This Villa Chambre d'Amour is a blend of 80% Gros Manseng and 20% Sauvignon Blanc, grown on the clay-limestone slopes typical of the Gascony vineyard. Gros Manseng, the star variety of Jurançon and Côtes de Gascogne, is precisely responsible for the wine's exotic, generous and lightly spicy character: its thick skin naturally resists rot and allows it to reach advanced ripeness without losing acidity, producing berries concentrated in both sugars and aromas of incomparable richness. Sauvignon Blanc brings its fresh, floral and citrus touch that balances the exotic generosity of Manseng with elegance and precision. Harvesting takes place at night to preserve the aromatic potential of the berries. Winemaking includes 12 hours of skin contact and slow pressing under protective atmosphere. Fermentation is arrested by cold when the balance between acidity and residual sugars is reached. Ageing occurs in tank on fine lees for 2 to 3 months before early bottling.
Tasting profile
The colour is pale yellow with golden reflections, limpid and luminous. The nose is open, inviting and immediately expressive: intense aromas of exotic fruits, mango, pineapple and grapefruit, mingle with white peach, pear and citrus notes, touched by honey and a soft, enveloping hint of vanilla. On the palate, the attack is round and fruity, supported by a vibrant freshness that balances the natural sweetness of residual sugars with remarkable elegance and lightness. The texture is silky without heaviness, the fruit is precise and persistent, and the finish is long, savoury and aperitif-like, with that return of mango and citrus that immediately invites another glass. A wine to drink fresh, young and without ceremony.
The producer
Maison Lionel Osmin is based in Pau, at the heart of Gascony in south-west France, and has been since its creation one of the most reliable and representative addresses for the native Gascon and Basque varieties, Manseng, Sauvignon, Tannat and Cabernet Franc, making accessible, precise wines of natural generosity that reflect the warm and sunny character of this region. Villa Chambre d'Amour is the flagship and best-selling cuvée of the white range, with more than 900,000 bottles produced annually.
Food and wine pairing
This Villa Chambre d'Amour pairs beautifully as an aperitif, with tapas, vegetable crisps, fresh cheeses with herbs or verrines of exotic fruits. At table, it reveals its full generosity with terrine of foie gras, Gers salad, sweet and savoury Asian cuisine, chicken with pineapple, spiced Thai dishes or a fresh fruit dessert such as lemon meringue tart or exotic fruit salad. Served well-chilled between 8 and 10°C, it reveals all the citrus freshness and tropical indulgence of a south-west off-dry wine made with generosity and sincerity.
