COMPAGNON
Domaine Camille Braun's Pinot Noir from the Bollenberg shows cherry, raspberry, sweet spice and calcareous minerality. Elegant, fresh and approachable.
The Alsace Pinot Noir Bollenberg 2024 from Domaine Camille Braun is a bright and expressive Pinot Noir from the sun-blessed Bollenberg terroir, where Pinot Noir thrives. It opens like a floral spray with a hint of blood orange and citrus bark, offering aromas of ripe morello cherry and orange peel.
Terroir and vines
Bollenberg is a dry hillside with clay-limestone soils in the heart of a nature reserve, south of Colmar. Nestled in the rain shadow where clouds are held back by the ridge, it enjoys a particularly dry, föhn-influenced climate, warm and ideal for Pinot Noir expression. The vines are certified organic and biodynamic (Demeter and Biodyvin), with hand harvesting. Vinification follows Demeter and Biodyvin charter principles, using wild yeasts and no additives. The ageing respects this fine fruit, avoiding excessive oak.
Tasting profile
The colour is a luminous cherry red. The nose is floral and blood-tinged, with morello cherry, kirsch, orange peel and sweet spices. The palate is fresh with lovely balance between alcohol and acidity, driven by the bright acidity linked to Bollenberg's terroir. The fruit is vivid and seductive in its youth. The finish is fresh and persistent.
The domaine
Heirs to winemaking tradition reaching back to the 17th century, Christophe and Chantal Braun, the third generation of Domaine Camille Braun, work some fifteen hectares at Orschwihr, the southernmost wine village of Alsace, sheltered by the Grand Ballon. The domaine is known for the precision and elegance of its vineyard-designated wines.
Food pairing
This Pinot Noir pairs well with red meat, roasted poultry, savoury tarts, quiches, grilled dishes or cheese. Served at 14 to 16°C, it is ready to drink now, showing its bright fruit.
