Fine red fruits, white spices and floral notes. Domaine Hebinger's precise and elegant Pinot Noir from Eguisheim, supple, fresh and refined.
The Alsace Pinot Noir Eguisheim S 60 9.10 2023 from the Hebinger family comes from an old vine planted on the most clayey part of the Grand Cru Eichberg, in Eguisheim. A structured and lively red with present yet restrained tannins, offering ripe red fruits and white spices. This is a Pinot Noir built for ageing, rare in Alsace, and one of the domaine's signature cuvées.
Terroir and vineyard
The S 60 9.10, named after its plot, comes from an old Pinot Noir vine on the most clayey section of Eichberg, one of four Grand Crus at the domaine, alongside Pfersigberg, Hengst and Sommerberg. The marly, chalky and clay soils are worked without herbicides, with every other row left to grass and deliberately modest yields. Harvesting is entirely by hand. Winemaking relies on indigenous yeasts and excludes added inputs. Ageing takes place in large wooden vessels and barrels over an extended period, with each wine remaining in the cellar until reaching full maturity.
Tasting profile
The colour is a deep ruby red. The nose quickly reveals the Pinot Noir character: small red fruits, hints of barely-preserved dark fruits, liquorice and pepper. The palate is structured and lively, with very fine tannins and admirable ripeness, balanced by subtle acidity that extends the finish. Its tannin structure, present yet controlled, leans towards ripe red fruits and white spices.
The domaine
In Eguisheim, a village counted among France's most beautiful, Domaine Hebinger tends 11.2 hectares certified organic and biodynamic, managed with passion by Christian, Véronique and their son Denis. Everything is hand-harvested, and the wines are recognised for their purity, tension and precision.
Food pairings
This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with duck breast, red meat, game birds or characterful cheese. Decanting is recommended, and it should be served around 16 °C. It can be enjoyed now after aeration, and will reward cellaring for up to ten years.
