Aged in a century-old Colheita Port cask from Niepoort, this rare single cask expression reveals Michel Couvreur's distinctive approach to whisky maturation.
A rare and confidential cuvée, Single Cask Port 2008 illustrates a particularly singular facet of Michel Couvreur's work, where ageing in a cask previously containing Port enriches the house's already distinctive signature. Drawn from a Scottish distillate selected with rigour, this whisky has been aged for many years in a single cask, offering a precise, intense and unrepeatable reading of the 2008 vintage.
The nose stands out for its great appeal, marked by ripe red fruit, black cherry, plum and candied grape notes, typical of Port's influence, accompanied by touches of cocoa, walnut and soft spices. With aeration, deeper notes of leather and dried fruits emerge, bringing complexity and depth.
The palate is ample and velvety, with fine concentration. It develops flavours of dark preserved fruits, dark chocolate, fig and liquorice, supported by an elegant woody frame that is perfectly integrated. The balance between richness and freshness is remarkable, avoiding any heaviness despite the aromatic power.
The finish is long and persistent, marked by notes of macerated fruits, spices and a subtle winey character that recalls the Port cask ageing. A whisky of great personality, at once profound and seductive, intended for lovers of characterful cuvées and expressive single casks, where every detail counts.
