Domaine Faiveley's historic monopole offers raspberry, cherry and subtle spice. A precise, fruit-driven Mercurey.
The Mercurey La Framboisière Monopole 2024 from Domaine Faiveley is one of the most emblematic and eagerly awaited cuvées of the Côte Chalonnaise, from a historic monopole acquired by the Faiveley house in 1933, which has since lent its name to the dedicated winery in Mercurey. Monopole of the Domaine since 1933, the climat La Framboisière produces wines of marked typicity, with intense red fruit aromas and pleasant minerality. This emblematic parcel now lends its name to our Mercurey winery. William Kelley of the Wine Advocate on the 2023 vintage noted black fruit aromas, orange zest, smoke and clove, a fairly full-bodied wine, generous and fleshy, succulent and charming, with good depth at the core and a fruity finish. As always, it represents excellent value for money.

Terroir and vineyard

Between 230 and 320 metres altitude, with south-east exposure favouring good sunlight. Calcareous and clay soils. This position in the Côte Chalonnaise, more modest geographically than the Côte de Beaune or Côte de Nuits, is in no way a compromise on quality. With approximately 650 hectares of vines, Mercurey is by far the largest appellation of the Côte Chalonnaise and has become a true flagship for Côte Chalonnaise wines, offering cuvées that rival those of the great domaines of the Côte de Beaune. This cuvée comes from vines planted in 1949, 1964, 1965, 1968, 1990 and 2010. Vinification is precise and rigorous, with grapes cut and sorted by hand. The proportions of destemming and whole bunch vary with each vintage. Two daily punchdowns extract colour, tannins and aromas from the grape skins. After 15 to 19 days of maceration, alcoholic fermentation completes. The free-run wine is drawn by gravity, whilst gentle pressing of the marc yields a wine of great purity. The wines are aged for 13 to 14 months in French oak barrels, 20 of which are new and selected for the fineness of their grain, moderately toasted and aged in natural cellars at constant humidity and temperature.

Tasting profile

This wine offers a powerful, fruit-forward nose, mingling gourmand aromas of red fruits, dark fruits and woody notes. On the palate, La Framboisière is a powerful wine with crisp red fruit flavours. With its velvety tannins and persistent finish, it is a genuine wine of pleasure. Raspberry, as its name announces, is the dominant note and aromatic signature of this cuvée from vintage to vintage, accompanied by cherry and blackberry, carried by tannins of great velvety softness and fresh acidity, well integrated, which bring balance, tension and length to generous fruit. A Mercurey to drink with pleasure today or to keep for five to eight years.

The domaine

Founded in 1825 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley is one of Burgundy's most emblematic family houses, now run by Erwan and Ève Faiveley. Seventh generation of a family whose name has been associated for two centuries with the rigour, consistency and precision of Burgundian wines, the domaine today covers more than 120 hectares spread across all the great appellations of the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise, with constant attention to sustainable viticulture and respect for the expression of each terroir.

Food pairings

Tournedos Rossini, hare civet with chestnuts, capon with morels, lemon-chocolate yule log. This Mercurey La Framboisière will also pair well with duck breast with cherries, herb-roasted poultry, rack of lamb with subtle spices, or a selection of aged cheeses such as Époisses or Cîteaux. Served between 14 and 16 °C, it will reveal all the fruity generosity and tannin softness of a historic monopole Mercurey.
