Dark berries, garrigue and southern spice from La Ferme du Mont. A powerful, generous Rasteau with structure and aging potential, warming and complete.
The Rasteau Lucantis 2022 from La Ferme du Mont is the most velvety and seductive cuvée from Stéphane Vedeau's biodynamic domaine, a limited release expressing Rasteau with spectacular aromatic intensity and immediate appeal. Flowers and red fruits rest on a bed of liquorice. The palate achieves an improbable balance, offering richness and opulence alongside a certain lightness and genuine seduction. A Rasteau that surprises with its finesse and captivates with its generosity.
The terroir and vineyard
La Ferme du Mont is Stéphane Vedeau's Rhône domaine, from the same visionary winemaker behind Clos Bellane in Valréas. A former professional footballer who turned to wine in 1989, he spent 15 years in Languedoc before settling in the Rhône Valley in 2000. La Ferme du Mont manages a mosaic of biodynamic vineyards on the Rasteau appellation, certified organic since 2014 and farmed biodynamically since 2011. The Lucantis cuvée blends Grenache and Cinsault, two complementary varieties where the first brings richness and depth, and the second contributes lightness, freshness, and floral finesse that defines this wine's originality in an appellation often known for powerful, massive expressions. Winemaking is radical and non-interventionist, without added yeasts or sulfites, with a slow maceration of one month for gentle, precise extraction. The wine ages without filtration, in absolute respect for natural matter.
Tasting profile
The colour is deep, luminous garnet red. The nose shows spectacular and immediately seductive aromatic intensity, with aromas of flowers, red fruits, and liquorice expressing the quality of the fruit and purity of sulfite-free winemaking with precision and generosity. The floral palette of rose and violet is particularly remarkable for a Rasteau, bringing elegance and delicacy that temper Grenache's natural generosity. On the palate, the balance is striking, offering richness and opulence balanced against lightness and genuine seduction, with absolute harmony and fluidity throughout. The tannins are remarkably soft and velvety, born from slow maceration and gentle extraction. The finish is long, liquorice-tinged and fruity, with persistence and freshness that confirm the stature of this limited cuvée.
The domaine
Stéphane Vedeau is a singular and compelling figure in the Rhône vineyard. A former professional footballer, he has devoted himself to the vine since 1989 with the same determination and rigour. Praised by Robert Parker for the freshness and soul of his wines, he produces natural wines at La Ferme du Mont and Clos Bellane with absolute precision and honesty, using indigenous yeasts and biodynamic methods, in respect for terroir and the living world.
Food pairing
This Rasteau Lucantis pairs beautifully with herb-roasted leg of lamb, lamb rack with black olives and thyme, slow-braised Provençal daube, duck breast with cherry, grilled rib steak, or aged cheeses such as Pélardon or Banon. Served between 15 and 16°C with 30 minutes of decanting recommended, it will reveal all the velvety richness, liquorice depth, and natural seduction of a characterful Rasteau signed by one of southern Rhône's most talented biodynamic winemakers.
