Fresh Burgundian botanicals, juniper, citrus and local herbs. Artisanal gin from Magnenet, precise and aromatic, at home in a cocktail or serve neat.
Gin NIG from Distillerie Magnenet is a terroir gin unlike any other, crafted from wild juniper berries foraged near the Chambolle Musigny vineyard and wine-based spirit from the Côte de Nuits, a direct homage to great Burgundy wines.
This bottling by Distillerie Magnenet is made from Côte de Nuits wine spirit and wild juniper berries picked at the edges of the Chambolle Musigny vineyard, combined with ten botanicals including rose, lemon peel and smoked tea. The gin is bottled at 45 degrees. NIG remains the most emblematic expression from Distillerie Magnenet, conceived as a true aromatic reference to Burgundy wine, part of a natural production approach free of dyes, preservatives or artificial flavourings.
Ageing and origin
Crafted from a base spirit entirely of wine, from Côte de Nuits vineyards, this gin marries the traditional aromatic structure of juniper with a resolutely Burgundian identity, designed to evoke the characteristic flavours of Pinot Noir. Rose and lemon peel bring floral freshness and subtle citric notes, while smoked tea imparts a toasted character gently reminiscent of barrel-aged wine. Produced at Nuits Saint Georges in the heart of the Côte de Nuits vineyard, Distillerie Magnenet favours short supply chains and local sourcing, avoiding artifice to deliver an honest and faithful expression of its terroir.
Tasting profile
On the nose, floral rose notes mingle with red fruits evoking Pinot Noir, fresh lemon peel and a whisper of smoke recalling the toasting of a wine barrel. Beneath these aromatic layers, the classic structure of wild juniper asserts itself, supported by a well-judged light bitterness. A hint of smoked tea and subtle citric edge add further complexity, the distinctive signature of this wine-rooted identity. On the palate, the gin is balanced and precise, marrying citric acidity with a light bitterness and fruited aromas suggestive of Burgundian red wine. The palate reveals notes of red fruits, flowers, smoked tea and a light bitterness that structures the whole. The finish is fresh and persistent, with a floral final note and delicately toasted character.
The house
Distillerie Magnenet, under the direction of Jean Philippe Magnenet at Nuits Saint Georges, places respect for terroir at the heart of its work, within the Burgundy vineyard itself. Driven by a commitment to natural and local production, without artifice, the house crafts its spirits as a return to essentials, conveying the most honest expression of the richness of the Côte de Nuits, whether through its French sugar or the wine spirit that forms the base of its creations.
Serving and pairings
This Gin NIG is best enjoyed lengthened with tonic, in a cocktail, or simply neat after a meal to fully appreciate its wine-rooted Burgundian character. It also makes the ideal ingredient for a reimagined Negroni, paired with the Vermouth and Cyno from the same distillery, for an entirely Nuits Saint Georges creation. It pairs beautifully with aged Burgundy cheeses, fine charcuterie, fresh red fruits or a light dessert, whose delicacy will resonate perfectly with the citric balance and floral richness distinctive of this terroir gin.
