Fine, elegant bubbles revealing pear, peach and delicate floral notes. Ruinart's signature champagne, fresh, generous and deeply pleasurable.
Ruinart Brut R is the signature cuvée and most emblematic expression of the first Champagne house, founded in 1729, driven by an unwavering quest for excellence. The house has made Chardonnay its guiding principle across all its cuvées, a rare and delicate variety. This non-vintage champagne embodies remarkable elegance, roundness and versatility, incarnating French art de vivre in its most refined form.
The blend and terroir
Ruinart Brut R is the fruit of a carefully controlled blend of Champagne's three classic varieties in precisely balanced proportions. The grapes come from 40 to 50 different crus located primarily on the prestigious terroirs of the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims. A subtle blend of Pinot Noir (45%), Chardonnay (40%) and Meunier (15%), with Chardonnay playing the leading role to create a champagne of remarkable roundness. With just 7 g/L of dosage liqueur, this Brut nearly approaches Extra-Brut territory, perfect for those seeking purely mineral, refreshing profiles. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with full malolactic fermentation conferring a creamy, round and velvety texture. The blend incorporates 20 to 30% reserve wines from various vintages. The champagne then ages for 2 to 3 years on the laths in the prestigious crayères of Reims.
Tasting profile
The golden yellow robe carries fine, lively bubbles. The initial nose is delicate, fresh and fruity, revealing aromas of fresh white fruits, juicy pear, russet apple, white peach, apricot and nectarine. Subtle notes of elderflower and coriander seed precede a second nose with intense brioche and biscuit notes. Pale yellow-green hue with silver reflections, fine and persistent mousse. Juicy, refined yellow tropical fruit, pleasant acidity, mineral touch, discreet floral honey in the finish. Suave aromas of ripe stone fruits evoking plum tart. Harmonious roundness and persistence envelop the palate through to the finish.
The house
Ruinart was founded on 1 September 1729 by Nicolas Ruinart. His uncle, an erudite Benedictine monk, Dom Thierry Ruinart, possessed the genius intuition that this new sparkling wine was destined for greatness. The house sources 90% of its grapes from vineyard suppliers, with hand harvesting. Ruinart uses chalk caves, called crayères, in its winemaking process. Frédéric Panaïotis has been cellar master since 2007, safeguarding the continuity and excellence of the entire range.
Food pairing
The shimmering effervescence indicates magnificent potential. Ideal as an apéritif with jamón ibérico tapas. Ruinart Brut R pairs beautifully with fine oysters, steamed scallops, tempura langoustines, herb-marinated sea bass tartare, salmon terrine or soft cheeses such as Brie de Meaux or Brillat-Savarin. Serve around 8°C.
