The heart of Roc des Anges in bottle. The spirit of this grand schist terroir has been captured in this cuvée, where Carignan and Grenache speak with directness and joy.
The Segna de Cor 2023 from Roc des Anges is far more than an entry-level cuvée, it is the welcoming calling card of one of Roussillon's most admired domains. Its name is a perfect anagram of Roc des Anges, carrying the spirit of the entire estate: the same biodynamic philosophy, the same ancient schists, the same love of Catalan Carignan and Grenache, simply in their most direct and honest expression. A wine made to feel at home everywhere, with everyone.

The domain and its heritage

Marjorie and Stéphane Gallet founded Roc des Anges in 2001 at Latour-de-France in Roussillon, after formative years with Gérard Gauby, the architect of modern Roussillon. Beginning with 10 hectares of abandoned vines on black schist, they patiently built over two decades one of France's most accomplished and respected estates, raising Roussillon to the rank of great wine regions worldwide. In late 2023, Marjorie and Stéphane chose to pass a significant part of the domain to Thibault Ponthier, a new vigneron who shares their values and vision. Far from a break, this transmission is a continuation: the founders will accompany the new proprietor for several years, ensuring that the biodynamic philosophy, precision of vinification, and deeply Catalan identity of the wines will be preserved and extended. A living heritage, handed on with the same care that presided over the domain's birth. Certified biodynamic since 2011, the vineyard extends across more than 40 hectares of old-vine Grenache, Carignan, Maccabeu and Syrah, with natural yields barely exceeding 15 to 20 hl/ha, a voluntary constraint that concentrates the aromatic expression and complexity of each cuvée.

Tasting profile

The colour is a sustained, brilliant and generous red. The nose is immediately expressive and seductive, with intense aromas of Mediterranean spices, ripe dark fruits, cherry, blackberry, black olive, lifted by a floral note and light vanilla from its ageing in concrete vat. On the palate, freshness asserts itself first, carried by the natural acidity of Carignan and the tension of the schists. Toasted and floral notes enrich a dynamic, juicy and full-bodied character, with silky, melted tannins. The finish is mineral, complex and energetic, with aromatic persistence that far exceeds its rank. A crisp, generous and honest red that marries the warmth of Roussillon to the freshness of ancient schists. Vinification, faithful to the estate's spirit, rests on indigenous yeasts, partially whole bunches, macerations of 10 to 15 days and nine months ageing in concrete vat to preserve the fruit and sap of the wine intact.

Food pairing

This Segna de Cor is the perfect companion to a summer barbecue, a plate of Iberian charcuterie, grilled vegetables with fleur de sel on a plancha, a lamb tagine with prunes, or wood-fired pizza. It will also be delicious served slightly cool around 14–15 °C as an aperitif with friends, in the relaxed and generous spirit that is the signature of this cuvée.
