Remarkable minerality and bright fruit, Domaine Sylvain Pataille shows what Aligoté can truly be.
Bourgogne Aligoté 2023 Domaine Sylvain Pataille
In Marsannay, Sylvain Pataille is recognised as one of the finest interpreters of the northern Côte de Nuits terroirs and as a passionate advocate for Aligoté, a cépage he elevates to a remarkable level of expression. Farmed organically, the vineyard receives rigorous parcel-by-parcel attention, with controlled yields and a constant search for balance. The vinifications are precise and minimalist, respecting the identity of the cépage and the vintage.
From various parcels planted on argilo-calcareous soils, this Bourgogne Aligoté 2023 reflects the freshness and tension characteristic of the Marsannay sector. The 2023 vintage, sunny yet well-balanced, brings fine ripeness while retaining dynamic natural acidity.
Fermentation and ageing, partly in cask, are handled with restraint to add relief without masking the natural liveliness of Aligoté.
On the nose, fresh lemon, crisp apple and white flowers emerge, lifted by a light almond touch and a chalky nuance. The palate is taut and energetic, supported by precise acidity and a weight fuller than expected for the appellation. The finish is saline and persistent, confirming the seriousness and depth of the wine.
A characterful Aligoté, ideal as an aperitif, with oysters, shellfish, ceviche or fresh cheese. Drink now for its bright tension, with cellaring potential of 4 to 6 years.
