Bright and citrus-driven, with fresh acidity and minerality. Aline Beauné's precise, tensile Aligoté, saline and genuinely rewarding.
The Bourgogne Aligoté 2024 from Domaine Aline Beauné is the domaine's most vivid and direct expression, proof that Aline Beauné can articulate Burgundy's most underestimated grape variety with the same precision and conviction she brings to her Chardonnays. A frank Aligoté of natural liveliness and minerality, it speaks honestly about what this cépage offers at its most immediate and most delicious in capable hands.
Terroir and vineyard
This Bourgogne Aligoté comes from vines planted on the slopes of Saint-Vallerin, on the same clay-limestone and marl soils that define Aline Beauné's vineyard. Aligoté, an ancestral Burgundian variety often relegated to supporting cassis in a Kir, reveals on these well-drained calcareous terroirs a vivid, direct, and aromatically precise expression that deserves discovery in its own right. Farmed under organic conversion with some biodynamic practices, without herbicides or chemical treatments, the vineyard receives the same rigour and attention as the domaine's Chardonnay parcels. Grapes are hand-harvested at full ripeness. Winemaking is gentle and minimally interventionist, using native yeasts, with modest ageing chiefly in stainless steel to preserve the grape's natural liveliness and freshness.
Tasting profile
The robe is pale yellow with green glints, limpid and luminous, immediately fresh and light to the eye. The nose is fresh and expressive, with the frankness and spontaneity typical of Aligoté, notes of green lemon, grapefruit, green apple, and white flowers open with vivacity and ease, accompanied by a delicate herbaceous note and fine chalky minerality that marks the terroir's calcareous imprint. On the palate, the texture is light and salivating, with bright natural acidity well integrated, bringing momentum and drinkability to a delicate, precise wine. Citrus freshness crosses the palate with elegance and length. The finish is clean, mineral, and fruity, with an appealing liveliness and persistence that invites the next glass. Drink within two to three years to preserve its freshness.
The domaine
Aline Beauné founded her domaine in 2018 at Montagny-lès-Buxy, after fifteen years managing winemaking at Château de la Crée in Santenay. A graduate in oenology from Dijon, she immediately committed to organic conversion and some biodynamic practices to revitalise the soils. Across 5.5 carefully tended hectares between Saint-Vallerin and Montagny, she produces wines of a consistency and precision that quickly impressed Jancis Robinson MW, who identifies her as a producer to watch.
Food pairing
This Bourgogne Aligoté pairs beautifully with fine claires oysters, a seafood platter, Burgundian snails with garlic and parsley, moules marinières, salt cod brandade, Comté gougères, or fresh chèvre. It is also an ideal base for a characterful Burgundian Kir, with a measure of quality crème de cassis. Serve at 8 to 10 °C to reveal all the citrus liveliness and natural minerality of a carefully, honestly made Montagny Aligoté.
